Controlling my 7 year old!

Can anyone help??  I have a very lively, fun, outgoing 7 year old.  However with all the good stuff, he has a fierce temper.

He is incredibly competetive and has just lost a game on wii.  Ridiculous I know.  He has stormed into his room, thrown a robot on the floor, broken a clock radio and thrown every thing around his room.

This sounds bizarre but the strength of his reactions are getting worse.  I have now taken the wii away.  Taken away the robot, the clock and left him in his room.  I've talked to him.  Un plugged the TV and taken away all privilidges.

This is the third big outburst in as many days and the last time it happend I warned him that I would take things away.  I just feel like Im doing it all completely, totally and utterly wrong.

His dad is away, I've had to come back to work and leave him with his nanny in his room.  I feel abysmal.  Can't work and not sure what to do.  Oh and of course, his last words to me were that he hated me. All because of a blinking game where he didnt win.

I just need some advice from someone out there with similar problems.....is there anyone please???

Many thanks.

I doubt if this is about a Game,he sounds frustrated, as his Dad is away are you making up for it and doing sports and plenty of activities, he could be bored and fed up and what he needs is stimulation, get him and get the Nanny working outside with him, how about Bike Riding, Basket Ball, soccer, what games is he into. Is there any other reason for his tantrums you can think of sometimes there is a trigger point, Try not to feed into his behavior as if it gets him your attention that could be a reason for him to do it,
