Child demonstrates sudden onset change in behavior from talkative, engaged in social or playful behavior to either fixed stare, or nystagmus with lip smacking, strong pressure sound (like a pressure cooker). He becomes non-verbal - with excessive drooling . After the fixed stare resolves he appears to focus on finger play between the thumb and first or second finger other symptoms above remain. Condition typically remains for 10 to 15 minutes and on occasion recurrs over and over during a possible two hour period with child making good eye contact on request but reverting back to above symptoms after eye contact. Only verbal response in an awee sound during the episode after the symptoms pass the child resumes normal talkative, playful self. He describes sensation of hammering and spinning during episode. Neurologist says this is not seizure related.
