Hi Kat,
While men can suffer the effects of HPV, we get by relatively easy when compared to women. Your Pap smear report might state whether the cells were associated with high risk HPV viruses which are associated more cancer more frequently than low risk HPV viruses. Depending on how old your husband is he might qualify for vaccination against HPV, so you may want to inquire about this. I think the most important thing right now is focusing on your pregnancy and keeping yourself healthy. Everything else will come with time. Be sure to stay in touch and let us all know how everyone is doing!
Take care,
John
Sorry I meant lesions....haha
Thank you for answering back. I appreciate it. I went to my OB yesterday and they did do the colposcopy. My Dr said that there are legions on my cervix but, like you said, no treatment until baby is out. I am concerned that the leisons have been caused by HPV. Should my husband be worried if he has received the virus from me? I am trying not to worry about everything, but this is scary. The scary unknown. Thanx again
Kat
Dear Katconner,
Thank you for the question. I'm sorry if this response is too late for you and I'm just getting to the forum for today. A class 4 Pap smear indicates a precancerous change in the cells observed on your Pap smear. Colposcopy (to look at the vulva, vagina, and cervix) is the next appropriate step in order to further evaluate you. There would not likely be any treatment at this time unless invasive cancer is identified. Don't worry, everyone is looking out for the baby's well-being. After your pregnancy has ended a more definitive treatment plan will be established. I would like to know how your appointment went. Will you let us all now what happened?
Best of luck,
John
