Our son who is only 54.75 inches. He is 11 years, 7 months and has an advanced bone age of 13 and is in “full-blown puberty” at Tanner 3. His voice is lowering, he has acne, facial hair above the lip as well as some darker fine hair along the jaw, armpit hair, and nipple changes. Our concern is those bones are going to close due to puberty, and his height may be severely compromised. I’m 5’ 1”, my husband is 5’ 6”, and our 14 ½ year old is now 5’ 6 thanks to growth hormone shots since age 9 due to idiopathic short stature.
He is in a growth spurt, which looks like it started in November. I charted his height based on his bone age of 13 and that puts him on the 1st percentile curve. The blood work came back normal except for possible celiac disease and an elevated IGF1 of 476. He appears to be whipping through puberty. My 14 year old also moved fast through puberty, staying at Tanner 3 only one year.
We want to do whatever we can to help our son. Have you dealt with similar cases, or is there someone in the country who specializes in early puberty combined with advanced bone age? He was always on the 5th or 10th percentile curve, so this came as a surprise to us.
