Please help us!

)Our pediatrician put my 11-year old daughter on Trisprentec because her menstrual cycle wouldn't stop. They did testing for anemia which she didn't have. I was sure to tell him she has had an aura in the past without migranes, because I have read there is a risk of blood clots if taking bc pills when one has migranes.  He still felt the best treatment to stop the period which had been going on about 45 days, was to put her on bc pills.  She took them a week only, because she got a migrane headache after they kicked in.  Too make a long story shorter, she missed several days of school and felt bad, during the first of the week, but by Friday she had a severe migrane. I gave her Advil one week, which didn't work then tried Tylenol which didn't work the  next week. The doc gave her lortab, and fenegran, which put her to sleep but didn't work.Imitrex didn't work, and she tried 1 Maltrox which didn't work.  Even tried dolchik (sp?) which didn't work. This is the start of the 3rd week of her migrane.  She had a CT scan and a pelvic ultrasound, which didn't show anything.  She has missed 2 weeks of school going on 3. Now the pediatrician wants to send her to a neurologist.  Would it be better to send her to an endocronoligist, or would that doc send her to a neurologist?  On a 1 to 10 scale she says her headache is a 6.5.  I have migranes too, and our family has a history of diabetes, and thyroid issues, just FYI.

Hi, blond moment, could not edit post, read your post wrong, now I understand.  I myself had prolonged periods as a youth, and put on the pill, this stopped the long periods with no side affects.  Lots of other things happened tho, no one told me the pill would not prevent pregency, two children at young age, yes I was married,at 17  through planning wedding for over 1 yr. had first child 2 mo after wedding.  The reason for the pill in her and my case is not to prevent pregency, but to stop long period, I do relise she is only 11yr but if at some point, 18 yr.+ this should be addressed.  Also, let her know antibiotic, cancel the effects of the pill.  If the migraine's were brought on when she begain takeing the pill, sounds like a allergic reaction to the meds.  I also have a daughter with endimetreosis, hope that is close to correct spelling, her periods are long & painfull.  She is sooo young to have to go through all of this,  has she seen a obgyn?  Please let us know how she is, if they have figured out what is causeing her pain.  So much time out of school, you can request a home teacher to come in 2 to 3 times a week, until she can attend school, at no cost, the district will provide this service to her, at your request.  By law she is entitled to an education, you pay taxes for this.  My mother moved out, I was 13yr.  I did not have an advicate like you for a mom, stay strong, & Happy Mother's Day.

She has been having menstral cycles since age 9.    She is tall for her age of 11 and always has been. She is 5'5" and weighs around 130.  Her dad is 6'2" and I, her mom, am 5'8".  Before the birth control pills she only had a auras but didn't get the headache. Just from talking to her we have recently figured that out. Thought maybe it was low-blood sugar or diabetes.   But she had said she got it at recess and she is very sensitive to light. Plus the recess time is 12:30-1:00 which is a pretty bright time of day.
The reason the doc put her on bc pills is because her periods in January became longer. First 2 weeks long, then gradually in Feb, 3 weeks long, and then in March she started and it didn't stop for 54 days, until she was on the Trisprentec which did stop her period about the 2nd week of the migrane headache. That we are thankful for but, unfortunately the migrane (which she says is a 6.5 on a 1-10 scale) has not.  He said her body needed to be "shocked" back into the way things should be.   We are trying some home remedies. She is taking a magnesium supplement since yesterday So far, nothing works, and she has missed 3 weeks of school. We do have a neuroligist apt next week.

Hi, did your daughter have migrane's before the Dr. put her on Trisprentec?  And why did the Dr. think 11yr is to young to start her menstrual cycle, is she small for her age?  Lots of scary tests for a child so young, and you must be scard for her too.  Have the Dr check for family history issues.  She may end up seeing lots of specialists, I would stick with the neurologist, & blood work to rule out family history.  Try local libary for home remedies, I read cut lemon on forhead for migrane's, but also, medical Dr. addvice.  Best of Luck to you & your family.
