GH testing and treatment

My son is 8, weighs 40 lbs and is 45 in tall  (ILGF 38).  He is very healthy, strong and athletic, and has grown about 1.25 - 1.5 inches over the last 4 years.  We actually have him set for the test tomorrow, but am honestly none to thrilled with the entire thing as I'm not sure of it's necessity.   IF he does show to be deficient, what are actual medical ramifications (not just social) to GH deficiency and short stature.  Thanks

okay and they thought he should have the GH Deficiency well I think it may be a good idea , if your Doctor thinks so I would go for it..you will have information then and be able to figure it if there is anything like meds to go with ...Let us know what you decide and the outcome ...good luck

Thanks a bunch for getting back to me!  I really hate making him go through the 6 hrs worth of testing (not to mention the $$$$), and would love to wait and see if nature takes it's course. I'm just concerned with some of the documentation that I've read on the effects GHD can have on the heart.

I can't shake the feeling that he really doesn't need to take the tests...I keep thinking that he's just a small kid from a family of short Italians, and was truly hoping that the second Dr. I discussed this with told me it was fine to wait.  oh well, will just have to wait for the results.   Will fill you in when I get the info.

I somewhat agree with you and I do think a mom;s gut is important , as you say genetics could play a part in it.Thing is it would give you the answers, otherwise you would not know till a later date when growth was slower. Its a Decision only you can make ..in my opinion tyou just throw the dice or go by that gut feeling ..good luck
