13 yr old with reoccuring flu like symptoms...

My 13 yr old son has been home sick all week with flu like symptoms (Fever, vomitting, sore throat, headache and chills).  We took him to his pediatrician and he said it was probably a virus that he would just have to live through although he prescribed antibiotics just in case he didn't get well by the end of the week.  This alone doesn't really worry me however he has been sick A LOT off and on over the last 6  months with very similar symptoms each time.  He's also missed a lot of school.  To give you an idea of how much, he's missed about 18 days since January.  We've taken him to his pediatrician several times and explained how often he's sick but he always chalks it up to some kind of flu, virus, stomach bug, etc.  I'm concerned that this could be something a lot more serious considering how often he's sick.  The doctor asked me if he was dealing with issues at school but I know that's not the case because he is actually running fevers and vomiting several times a day.  This week he can hardly hold anything down.  Any suggestions?

Thanks.  He is feeling better now, although who knows for how long.  We ended up giving him the antibiotics at the end of the week as the doctor told us to do if he didn't get better on his own.  Within a day or so he was better, so I don't know if it was really the antibiotics that helped or just time.  I have heard about some nasty bugs going around too, but it's just hard to believe that's enough to make him sick so often.  He seems to go a few weeks of feeling well then gets sick again.

There have been a lot of nasty bugs' virus around this year ,and not all the flu, with the symptoms you give . It may be a good idea however to ask for a couple of tests to make sure its not anything else ,some blood work wont hurt and make you feel less concerned .good luck
