SENSORY EVOKED POTENTIAL TEST

I'm scheduled for a Sensory Evoked Potential test to be performed on my head, neck, and back. My neurologist has determined that I have a rather serious balance problem and that's the test the neurologist is using to try and solve the mystery. I have no headaches or back aches. The doctor was a little cryptic when I asked what the test was for.
Anyone know what they may be looking for with that test?
