45 yr old with FSH of 15.5 having tubal reversal

Hi, I am new to the group. My husband and have been married 10 yrs. I had a tubal 20 yrs ago. We are seeking a tubal reversal as we want a child of our own. We almost had this the TR 4 yrs ago but ended up on the mission field in Africa I had a FSH level done on the 3rd day of my cycle last month and the results were 15.5. My question is "If I do home ovulation testing will that show if I am truly ovulating or not?"

Thanks,

Hi larusta, and welcome.  Never be afraid to ask any questions here...no such thing as a dumb question.  I'm not certain where you sent your question, but I'm sorry no one answered your question.  There are no medical Dr.'s on this forum, we are strictly peer to peer here, but what you do get is many women who have found themselves in whatever situation you are asking about.

If you have not had a period since August, I can pretty much guarantee that a home pregnancy test, if used properly, would be accurate.  You are however, not actually considered in menopause until you have not had a period for 12 months.  It is possible you are in perimenopause, which can last for up to 10 years for some, and often comes with irregular cycles.

I would suggest you see your Dr.  At this point, he/she is the best person to advise you.  All the best to you.

Thanks for the response. I just purchased an ovulation test, but when I read the insert I realized exactly what you said in the post......that just because I have a LH surge does not mean I have ovulated, could mean I am trying to ovulate.

I still feel ovulation on one side or the other each month or at least it is a small cramp sensation around the time that ovulation should occur.

I see on different blogs where women with very high FSH levels (20, 27, 38) have conceived naturally. My TR doctor says I have a chance but no guarantee. He also promises to follow me after TR with fertility help. However, I am in Texas and he is in Kentucky.

A home ovulation test only shows that you are having your LH surge.  Having had a tubal will not impact this as far as I know.  Having an LH surge though does not always guarantee you have ovulated.  In some cases your body can "gear up" so to speak, but no ovulation occurs.  The only way to know for certain is through ultrasound or additional bloodwork from your Dr.

I too would consult with an RE prior to having the reversal.  At 45 and with that high a FSH, as Kricket said you may be better off with alternative options.  Best of luck to you!.

I honestly would talk to a professional about your chances to conceive with FSH at 15.5.  You might be better off saving your money & using for IVF.  I would hate for you to spend the money & then it not work.

Good Luck in your decision.
