dilated/contractions

Hey guys. I'm kind of new to this so bare with me plz. I'm 38 weeks & 3 days with my first baby. I asked my doctor when do would she start checking if I'm dilated but she said she didn't want to check because it can be dangerous & my contractions aren't that bad. Is it true? Also, my stomach gets really tight all the time n goes away back and forth. Are those contractions?

I'm sure she could check without any issues. As far as the squeezing in your belly goes, yes those are contractions. Only if they are painful are they labor contractions. Until they are coming consistently with pain at even time intervals or your water breaks you are not in labor yet. Have you lost your mucus plug?

Thats weird she hasnt checked you yet... I was checked at 35 weeks and delivered at 38 weeks.... she should check to see if your dilated or effaced at all... it is not dangerous to check...

She had said it was dangerous because she didn't want to poke something or get bacteria in there
