I used one and had no issues with it. It's just nice to have a peace of mind
I had an appointment with a differ midwife a few weeks ago and there was a poster on the wall that said just because you can hear a heart beat doesn't mean that baby is fine.
There have been studies done showing some devices are not safe. Perhaps that's the worry.
Not saying i agree just that that's a common opinion, that they are unsafe
I also read an article that some moms feel so reassured and don't call the doctor/midwife/nurse when they should. So just still call if you have any questions or concerns :)
Some doctors don't recommend them because it causes unnecessary panic and stress when women can't find the heart beat themselves.
The midwife I seen advised I not use mine with my first pregnancy but the Dr I've seen for over 20 years was fine with it. He said some people don't know how to find the baby heartbeat on it and scare themself. He showed me what the baby's heartbeat would sound like compared to mine and the placenta.he also told me of I couldn't find the heartbeat right away not to freak out just move the doppler around or wait a few minutes then try again because the baby might be in a weird position.
I think they are brilliant. It's peace of mind
I miscarried before this pregnancy and my midwife recommended getting one to ease my mind was there a reason they said not to use it
I have one, and have used it for the past 2 pregnancies. I even brought it to my drs office to have him show me how to use it correctly. He said it's fine for periodic, brief heart rate checks.
