Transvaginal Ultrasound

How many of you guys have had one of these?  How far along were you?  Were they able to see the heartbeat?  I've got several friends on the fertility/ttc board that found out that they had empty sacs or were going to m/c after one of these.  It makes me nervous.  Thoughts?

I had one @9wks, 12wks, and one today @ 16wks 3d. So far everything in going well. YAY!!!!!! My baby is growing, heart is just a beating and things are looking good. I have not heard of a t/v u/s causing a m/c, but I don't know. They usually do it this way b/c it gives a better view of the baby when you are not very far along and yes, they can see everything. Heartbeat, head, spine, butt, arms , legs all of it. It's hard to see the baby through the abdomen @6wks on up to about 12 or 14wks. It will be ok, this is my fifth prenancy and I have had on with each baby. Gook luck

I know what you mean about getting nervous:  I was always so worried they would find something wrong during the u/s.  Anyway, I had one at 7w1d & we saw fetal pole and heartbeat, one at 10 weeks because I had some spotting, & one at 11w6d - that one was my 'graduation' u/s when we were released from re to regular ob.  I've had two abdominal u/s's since then.  Good luck w/your u/s and try not to worry - btw, your hcg numbers look really good :-))).

I'm 6 weeks and 5 days, and I've already had 2 (not to mention all the ones I've had going through IUI and IVF; sometimes as many as 3X/week).  At my 5 week 2 day scan all they could see was a gestational sac; at my 6 week they could see the yolk sac, fetal pole and heartbeat.  I'll have another on Monday, at 7 weeks.

I'm 7w 5d, I had my first u/s at 6w3d.  Of course I was freaking out about m/c, ectopic and all the other sad outcomes.  That u/s was perfectly fine, we found out that we are having twins, and saw 2 heartbeats.

My next u/s is this coming wednesday, and once again I'm nervouse, I hoping that everying is still going well.  For now my pregnancy is pretty easy, I'm not having morning sickness just some mild nausea on and off.  And at times it also concerns me whether I should be feeling more pg symptoms.

7 weeks saw hb (told me i was still measuring a week behind)

oh... meant to say, once you are farther along, they can do the regular u/s from the outside...

but its hard to pick everything up early on from a regular u/s

Thanks guys.  Ur comments really helped reassure me.  They want to do my u/s between 7-8 weeks so I'm hoping we see the heartbeat.  Knowing that someone only saw the sack at the first u/s and then a week later saw the heartbeat makes me feel better too.

Wish me luck!!!

With DD I saw a sac at 6 weeks and then a heartbeat at 9 weeks.  I M/C 2 years ago and they only saw a sac at 11 weeks.  With this pregnancy I have had 4, one at 6 weeks (sac), one at 7 weeks (hearbeat), one at 8 weeks (hearbeat), and one at 10 weeks (heartbeat).  I just had another U/S (not transvaginal) at 12 weeks and could see hands, feet, belly, and the baby had hiccups. SOOOO AWESOME!!

I had IVF. My Doctor did one every week (6-12) until I was discharged to a regular OB. I'm now 15 weeks and have not had a ultrasound for 3 weeks! It is weird now because I don't get to see her every week.

I want one this time. I'm 6 weeks now after having a missed m/c in November at 12 weeks.  I really am hoping to see a heartbeat as soon as possible so I can find out if this pregnancy is viable this time.

My wife had her period on 4 Apr and then has a little bleeding the 13-16th.  We had a Transvaginal Ultrasound done today and all we saw was the sac.  The doctor said we need to come back next week to be sure that it was not a miscarrage, but she didn't seem too hopeful.  My wife is sometimes late on her period.  She had two negative pregnancy results on the 3rd and 5th of May and then a possitive on the 15th.  We're hopping for the best.  She measured at 5 and 1/2 weeks although it should be in the 8th week.

Transvaginal ultrasound did not cause their m/c at all. I had transvaginal throughout my entire pre-pregnancy and pregnancy process (monitored clomid cycles etc).

Empty sacs have nothing to do with the tv/us either. It was only letting them know what was going on. If you're early in the pregnancy, you can't see the baby via a regular u/s. I saw the heartbeat/baby at 7 weeks. They did one at 5.5 and it was too early for baby but saw sacs/yolk was good and so was placement.

People need to stop blaming things they know nothing about as the cause of bad things. M/c happen very rarely due to a medical procedure. My RE and OB said that unless trauma or drugs, etc are involved, m/c happen because they were going to happen no matter what. You can't necessarily prevent them.

Good luck. I think a tv/us is more accurate anyway since they can do the view earlier in the pregnancy.

Again, good luck and no worries my dear. All will be ok and it doens't hurt a bit.
