Is there an embrio or not?

I'm 10 weeks pregnant but on my first ultrasound no embrio was seen. We were told that it was either because there was no embrio or because it had stopped developing but my doctor said that I should have another ultrasound in 10-15 days from now, a vaginal one this time, because it could be that the embrio is so small that it can't be seen now or that it was just a blighted ovum but he can't be sure at this stage. I read that a 10-week-embrio is about 1.5 inches long but in my case the ultrasound didn't show it, it was empty. Could it be possible that the embrio is there but can't be seen because it's smaller than normal?? Or is it that there's just no embrio and I had a blighted ovum??
Can anyone help me please??

Hi all. I finally couldn't wait for another 10-15 days for the u/s without really knowing if there was an embrio or not, so I went to the emergency room last thursday. The doctor after seeing the 1st u/s confirmed that there was no embrio, so I just can't understand why the other doctor gave me hope by saying that it was possible that there was one when it was clear that there was none.
Anyway, last friday I had some brown discharges which quickly changed to red and finally very late at saturday's night my uterus got rid of the gestional sac and almost of everything else except for some small remains which were seen on the u/s, so the doctor recommended that I should have a "legrado" to help remove this remains. Sorry but my first language is spanish and I'm not sure how to translate this word I think that it is a D & C since my uterus was scraped but I couldn't find it's equivalent in english.
So, here I am. Last week I was pregnant now I'm not. I don't have children, so that pregnancy would turn out to be my first child. It was really sad to find out that there was nothing inside of me when we were expecting to see a very small baby but I guess that nature knows what it does.
I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the replies you quickly sent and all for the advice.
Take care.

Thanks a lot for your replies and your good luck wishes. Yes my doctor said that I should have a vaginal ultrasound in 10-15 days from now. It will be on april 7th, so we have to wait to see what happens. I will post again to let you know the resuls in two weeks from now.
Thank you all.

Welcome to the forum.  I agree with the others, as Kimmy9093 said, usually by 10wks a heartbeat and embryo should be detected...but only a vaginal u/s will tell for sure what's going on.  Best of luck to you, and please keep us posted.

Normally at 10wks prego, a heartbeat, as well as the embryo is seen, but everyone's situation isn't always NORMAL, so please get a vaginal u/s done.  I've been thru 3 m/c's in one year, and now 30wks prego, so I've definitely been there and back.

My prayers are with you.  Keep your faith, I did.

Definitely get a vaginal ultrasound before any diagnosis is made.
Good luck
