My baby measured small

I went in for an ultrasound last friday.  I was suppose to be 17.5 weeks but the baby measured 16.5 weeks.  Does anyone know if this is okay?  I have had 3 losses in a row so I am more worried than normal.  I know that ovulation can be off but I tracked everything and there is no other date that I could have conceived later than day 11 of my cycle.  My doctor hasn't called so I am taking that as good news.  I just didn't know if this is completely normal.  The ultrasound tech was really quiet about it so that didn't help.  Has anyone experienced this and had a happy outcome?  Tracy

I am so, so sorry for your loss.  That is just devastating.  Life just does not seem fair sometimes.  You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers and I wish you healing and peace.  Please take care.

Thank you all for the messages.  I went in again for a 20 week ultrasound and the baby had Trisomy 18.  I went in at 24 weeks and he had no heartbeat and I was induced at 25 weeks.  Thank you

Thank you everyone.  I measured 3 or 4 days small in an ultrasound done around 8 or 9 weeks too.  I did have a normal heartbeat, I believe around 154.  They did quite a few measurements that took almost an hour but I have not heard anything from my doctor so I'm going to try and not worry about it and take it that no news is good news.  I don't think that my doctor has measured my fundal height yet.  I remember with my daughter, it seemed as I was always getting measured but I don't think they have measured me yet.  Isn't that the measurement of your stomach from the pubic bone to the top of the uterus?  Yes, I did have sex on day 11 with a positive ovulation stick on day 12 so maybe they swam around for a few days and the baby is just small.

The only time measuring behind is important is first trimester.  After that they all grow at their own rate, just like children.  No big issue at all.  I remember one u/s I had in third trimester.  The head was measuring at 25 weeks, the abdomen at 23, and so on and so on.  No one was worried, and my son is perfect! (if I do say so myself..lol).  Absolutely not an issue at all.

The important thing is, was there a normal fetal heartbeat? At this stage, your chances of miscarriage are much lower (most losses are in the first trimester). That and a normal heartbeat means you are in VERY good shape.

Relax :)

Gosh, I'm just thinking to myself, is it that odd to be measuring only a week small?  I remember measuring 1-2 weeks ahead sometimes.  Here's the thing. You say you conceived on day 11. Maybe you had sex day 11 but you didn't ovulate until day 15? Yes, the sperm could stay alive and you could be off 4 days :)  But, an early  u/s is best at dating, did you have one?  I'm not sure I'd get too worked up yet, I know you're nervous but I think they are going to wait it out for a few more weeks and probably measure again. Does the Dr. do your fundal height and find you measuring small?
