When will my period start?

As most of you know, my precious boy left us two weeks ago. Obviously, I abruptly stopped nursing. Other than pumping a small amount every few days to relieve some pain, I shouldn't be producing milk. My question is this...do any of you know when I will get my period again? I felt like it was going to start last weekend...lower back ache, cramping. There was a small amount of brown jelly-like discharge (oddly enough, exactly like the discharge I had when I first was pregnant with Ian). Then, nothing. I can't remember how long it took to get my period after weaning my last baby - it's been too long. Any ideas?

Tricia

Everyone is different but I got mine exactly 3 weeks after I stopped nursing completely.  I am also so sorry for your loss and hope you are managing to cope somehow, some way.  Many hugs.

Hey Trish,

Just like you after Cooper passed away I stopped pumping abruptly too and my cycle started almost exactly a month from the last day I pumped.  I wish we could give you an exact answer but I guess it is basically when your body is ready.

Sending you big hugs! I think about you an Baby Angel Ian everyday!!!!

Hi Tricia, I've been thinking about you everyday, and hoping you are doing well.
I got my period at 7 weeks PP, and I am exclusively breastfeeding.  I thought it might have been residual blood from afterbirth, but I actually stopped bleeding and spotting around 5 weeks.  Then a few days ago, bled like a normal menstral cycle, bright red blood.  I called my OBs office to see if it was normal to get your period that soon PP while breastfeeding, and they said you can get your period from 6 weeks PP on, breastfeeding or not.  Take care, Pam

If I remember correctly mine started w/in a couple of weeks after I stopped nursing. I know times are tough, I can't even imagine what you are going through, but you are still in my prayers. Kim
