So, this is your very first 'female check'? Normally women have a pap smear annually. They do insert a speculum into the vagina. Not the most pleasant thing but also not really bad either. It's normally a bit cold and you 'feel' it but doctors are fast and get the swab of your cervix very quickly. BUT . . .you are pregnant. So, no. You will not get the usual pap smear I wouldn't think. They shouldn't insert anything into your anus. And probably at your point in pregnancy, they won't check your cervix yet. But they do normally begin checking that down the road by inserting finger into the vagina to see if the cervix is closed or open. Having a child is not glamorous. They will do a urine test and maybe some blood work. Do NOT feel embarrassed. Please. They could care less. They see and deal with this all day long. This is routine for them and they make it as comfy as possible for patients. They do not judge. Take your normal shower and go to your appointment. Let us know how it goes!
