Its hard to tell to be honest but my dr told me during an ultrasound he was sucking his thumb wasn't hiccups. Hiccups i could also see on the outside as a thump every time he had one. Thumb sucking was more consistent. Its so hard to explain im sorry lol plus its been three years since i got that far! Maybe your doc could better explain :)

You can start feeling them as early as week 18. That's so exciting! :)

Everyone's body is very different. It could also be thumb sucking if it is extremely rhythmic and not so much single like thumps. My first had hiccups and sucked his thumb until my right side was literally bruised. Yet felt them maybe once with the second. I am very small and was able to feel it around 20 weeks.
Though strange i cant wait for them :)
