36 week appt. and 5cm dilated

So I had my 36 week check-up and everything is moving along. I have been off of bedrest for 2 days now and it feels great to be able to do things now. My midwife actually didn't want to check me today for some reason, but I insisted because I had contractions last night 3-5 min apart for almost 5 hours. Then I went to sleep and woke up to sporatic contractions all day today. She checked me and said I was 5cm for sure, head is right there, and there isn't much of the cervix left now. AHHHH Could be hours or days now. I am just waiting for that sign to call my midwife, but I have this fear I will not know when it is "real" labor. I wasn't in much pain with my son until 9cm....so I am freaked out again. I will keep you all posted if anything changes! I am getting scared and excited now. My 2nd GBS test came back negative, but my midwife is also worried that I won't have 4 hours to get the antibiotics when I go into full blown labor and to call her when I think it's time, but not too late. lol. Apparently I need to listen to my mom and if she thinks it's time (because I may not really know) then I have to go straight to her house and call on the way.
Also, I am still only 36 weeks...so I know baby will be on the smaller side...maybe around 6lbs by now?
What do you do when you are 5cm and 36 weeks? Do you just sit and take it easy? Go about life normally? Try to just get it started by walking or on the exercise ball? I'm not about to try to get it going in any other way, but I can't exactly stop it either. Just walking around the house could trigger something. I am just freaking out. It's getting close now!

Me too!!  About time you posted....I would go about my business, but maybe not do much in the way of walking or standing on your feet for long periods.  If you can keep that little one in there for another couple of weeks, that would be great.  But at least you don't have to lay in bed all day!!!

my first son was 36wks and he was 6lbs 14oz. with my last son i was 5-6cm and 90% effaced with contraction every 5-7mins for a whole WEEK before my water broke and there was no choice but to deliever. i also tested positive for GBS and only labored for 5hrs, but all was fine! just listen to your body and if your not sure there is no shame in just being checked out! best of luck :)

with my daughter I dialated to a 3 at 30 weeks, and I didnt stop my normal activities, I just limited them, and I managed to make it to right at 38 weeks.  I would just recommend do light things, and remember if you start to feel exhausted or tired, put your feet up and take a break. I think you will be good. And yay you are almost there, I bet you cant wait!

Wow! 5cm!! I would jut go about your day and im sure you will see your little one soon. You have been on bed rest with no activity for weeks now , so anything you do now would more than likely make baby come:) I guess Sept 8th with a baby girl:) Lets see.............. (^_^)

Your not going to leave MH after baby leaves are you?

I have been thinking about you too!  My water just broke at 36 weeks with Taylor (my first), and I went into labor a few hours later...  (had her c-section though)....  she was 7lbs 5oz!  (DH and I were both around 10lb babies when we were born- both full term)....  so...  7lbs 5oz might not the be norm for a 36 week baby!  :)  Colten was 37 weeks and was 7lbs 11oz...  so...

can't wait to see who is in there and what he or she looks like!!!!  :)  I am excited for you!!

tator....Oh no! I couldn't leave medhelp! I just probably won't be on as much, but we'll see. If I get the kids on a similiar schedule, then I will have more time to relax! =) (yea...we'll see how that goes...haha)
Wow!! Your kids were born early, and weighed that much, that's amazing. Jeremiah would have been the same way. He was 8lbs 4oz at 38 weeks....I think I have big babies. Although my midwife keeps thinking this baby won't be as big as my son, even at full term, but we'll see! Ya never know. I'm just amazed that I can be so far dilated and nothing be happening! It's killing me! haha. Although, my pelvis hurts so bad, I can barely walk anymore, and I have a serious waddle now. lol.
I am so excited to see if it's a boy or a girl! And I wonder if this one will have red hair like Jeremiah! =) Exciting stuff!

I would try to get on your feet as musch as you canwithout overdueing it. I was on strict bedrest for 10 weeks (the first 5 in hospital) . Week 36 i was allowed up but overdid it and spent 4 more days in bed.  week 37 was admitted to hopital twice, once overnight then 3 days later until i had him (4 whole days before) ANYWAYS I had been worried about having enough strength to deliver the babe. Well after I couldn't walk for a couple days, eventually they said i had a "seperated pevlis" well an x-ray taken 4 1/2 monts after showed that I FRACTURED my pelvis and it is not healed yet. They believe it is because i was on bedrest for so long my body wasn't ready for the birth

Today I did some walking, and cleaned. I didn't overdue it, but definitely trying to be active again.

evthing....ouch!! a fractured pelvis? My pelvis hurts like crazy, but I can't imagine it being fractured. You had quite an experience!!

Chantal- it fractured during the delivery, they orgianally told me it was "seperated" or basically like a sprain...So i was very good during the 6 weeks postpartum but then i wanted to start exercising and stuff and I just got more and more pain so finally they x-rayed me and it turned out it was fractured and still not healed. But they also broke my water when the induction didn't produce any contractions and i went from 3cm to 10cm in an hour...
Good luck! Hope you have an easy uneventful delivery!
