Extra stitches after giving birth

I was wondering if anyone has ever asked their doctor after delivering a baby for some extra stitches and if there is a technical  term for it.  This is my 3rd child and probably the last and this is something I am interested in.  What would be te best way to approach it with my doctor?  When would I need to discuss this with the doctor... the office I go to has 6 dr's and they want you to see them all so that you'll at least have met whoever is on call when your baby is delivered.   Or should I bring it up in the hospital before delivery?

I've never asked my Ob to do that now, but my old OB ( RIP) said he would remove a small flap of skin that was left behind after a hemroid I got with my first born. It isn't painful or even bother me. I guess he just didn't like the way it looked....lol. He told me he would remove it when I gave birth the next time. So I don't see why they couldn't do cosmetic if it was something the Dr was willing to do. Unfortunately, my OB passed away with Cancer, so he never got the chance. I haven't had the nerve to ask my OB now. This will be the second baby he's delivered for me.

Now as far a giving you extra stiches after an apisiotomy, I imagine they would have to cut more of you inorder to have exposed tissue to grow back together. That may be a little more complicated that what my OB was wanting to do.

I'd ask him anyways if you are serious about it. What could he tell you? No? I would definately ask about it prior to due date. That way if he does do it, it's in your chart and you might mention it again at the hospital if he agrees. Good luck!

I've been pregnant 7 times...given birth vaginally 3 (will hopefully be 4 in august) times, had 1 c-section, 2 miscarriage (1 d & c, 1 natural) and a stillborn... an extra stitch for HIM is DEFINATELY not on top of my list of priorities :)  As I said...I'd rather sleep anyway :)

It's been referred to as the "daddy-stitch"  I've never know anyone to have it but my ex made mention of it many times...I told him if he didn't like how I "felt" after birthing HIS children there are all kinds of toys he can purchase and he can make his hand as tight as he wants to, besides I'd be more than obliged to sleep instead.

My doctor did it for me! He actually did it for me with out even telling me till after ward! Well that was the first time...the second time...I asked him if he was planning on doing that and he told me yes.....So it happened.  Go head and ask.

And a friend of mine has a c-section and got a tummy tuck along with it! I would like that...but I dont ever want to have a c-section!

Good luck to you!

I think it's a myth mostly also.  I've had 5 vaginal deliveries and not had any problems like that, but I have heard of it.  But I think sciencteacher is right.  I think if you did need it, a plastic surgeon would have to do it, but wouldn't hurt to ask.  A lady that my mom works with just had a baby in Sept.  She had him do a C-section on purpose so he could do a tummy tuck at the same time.  Never heard of that myself, but that's what my mom told me.  Go figure.....

If scienceteacher is right and you do mean extra stitches to make you tighter down there, the doctors don't do that.  I have also heard that is a myth anyway and its just something guys came up with.  Go figure!  Of course if they have to cut you or you tear while giving birth they will stitch that back up, but if you want things tighter you should concentrate on working on your kegal exercises.  Here is a link if you don't know what those are:

Good luck!

what do you mean "extra stitches"? Like to make everything "tighter" in there? if that is the case, I will doubt they will do that. Plastic surgeons do that kinda stuff.... Hope this is what you meant.
