Hope someone can help!

Hey ladies.  My daughter is 4 months old and on Monday she had her second set of vaccines.  Last night (Wednesday) she was laying on her change table and started gasping for air.  I immediately picked her up and patted her back while walking around with her.  She calmed down quickly.  The first time she got her vaccines (at 2 months) she did the exact same thing a few days later but the first one was way worse and thought I would have to call 911.  My question is do you think its because of her vaccines?  Maybe she has an allergy to something in it?!  I'm waiting to call the doctor, but they're not open yet.  Anyone else experience this at all?  I'm just worried because I don't want this to keep happening every time she gets her vaccines.  It's too coincidental.  Thanks!!!

I'm glad she is doing okay. It may be nothing or it could be from the shots. Who knows. The important thing is that she is okay. =)

It is the pertussis part (whooping cough) of the dpt shot that tends to be the culprit most of the time.  When my granddaughter was born, my son-in-law went to get the pertussis shot, at the recommendation of the pediatrician and everyone in the house was supposed to go too.  But after seeing HIS reaction (flu like for days), the rest of us chickened out.  She hasn't had any trouble with her shots though, thank goodness (and she just got done doing a whole bunch at her 1 year checkup).

Thanks so much ladies.  I heard back from him but he assures me that it has nothing to do with the vaccines.  He said she could of swallowed some saliva and got stuck in her airways.  But still both times two days after her vaccines? Seems kinda weird to me.  He will check her out at her next appointment, but that's not until she's 6 months...so in Aug.  I guess I'll know more then and she'll get another set of vaccines and see if she does it again.  I'm scared tho.. scares me half to death.  But she's happy as can be right now and it's only happened twice.  I hate not knowing exactly what is going on.  I heard that some babies have allergies to what's in the vaccines and wondering if maybe she does. I guess I'll find out in Aug.. Thanks again for the reply's :)

Thanks so much for your posts! I'm waiting to hear back from the doc soon and will update on what he says.  It could be that she swallowed saliva but kinda a concidence that it happened again after her second vaccines. It may be that she has some kind of allergy to something in the vaccine.  Who knows, but hopefully I'll know soon.  Scares me half to death.. Poor girl.  Thanks again!

I would not jump to conclusions about the vaccines based on 2 incidents.  It could be she is inhaling saliva once in awhile, or some other cause.  I wonder about an allergy, was her mouth or throat swollen that could cause the attack?  Give the doc all the details and have her check your baby out thoroughly.  That must be very scary--good luck.

I actually agree with you Chantal. When I was younger my three sisters and I never got all these vaccinations and we turned out fine. Now a days these doctors push getting all these vaccines and even new vaccines not properly tested and they don't know the side effects yet. Sometimes these vaccines can bring on other problems. And sometimes they can even get the illness that the vaccine was meant to protect against.

It very well could be. Get a hold of your doc asap. My son only got the whooping cough vaccine (I see a homeopathic doc and he recommended we at least get this shot) and guess what? soon after that shot he got whooping cough for 8 weeks straight. I almost had to call 911 several times because he turned blue and couldn't breathe. We didn't sleep for 2 months. It was awful scary. Not everyone, actually hardly anyone agrees with me, but I don't do vaccines. It's my personal choice and now that my son had that reaction, I am more against them than ever. If you have had good experiences, then you won't worry, but those who have had bad experiences, it's different. Other than the whooping cough he had, he is healthy as can be. Just talk to you doc about it.
