Midwives do alkyl the regular check ups a doctor Does. And all the necessary tests. In my opinion they are just more personable and supportive. They spend more time with you in your appointments to go over all your questions, concerns, and reasons for tests. And they do work with hospitals and support whichever birth option you choose but are obviously better if your choosing to go all natural with as little interventions as possible.
So if you have to have an emergency c-section, is your midwife qualified and trained to do it?
Lol no but if you were at a hospital she would know if you needed oneed and would coordinate with thestaff to hand yoyo off to a surgeon. No time would be lost since the hospitals would be well aware of your progress and if you were at home they would also be in contact with the hospital so if you did need one the hospital would get more than ready for you. They know how to look fir the signs and at the first sign of trouble they would send you in. Remember even the medical board thinks c sections should not exceed 15% so
I'm actually thinking about contacting our local midwife group now. Thanks guys!
Best thing I ever did. And I went to see a doctor and then a midwife and made my choice. I will never go back to a doctor unless medically necessary. The way I see it is an OBGYN is a surgeon so y use them if your not needing a surgery and if you end up needing one they aren't just gonna blow you off lol. Good luck!
It depends on the midwife and the doctor you are seeing, to be honest. I had a midwife with my first baby and she was very hands off, which is great. However, she was daft and never could seem to remember any important details, even looking at my chart before coming in to see me. I had a hospital birth and the epidural, just like you can with an OB. But my bp spiked and I developed preeclampsia and my heart rate was sustaining over 160bpm while in labor. She had no clue what to do.
This time I'm seeing an OB at a different practice and he is absolutely amazing. He remembers every little thing we talk about at my appts and I never feel rushed like I did with her. He listens and is understanding and addresses my concerns.
You can find some pretty bad OB's and some equally bad midwives. I would just recommend trying a couple out and seeing who you feel more comfortable with.
My doctor office had 6 doctors and 6 midwives. I personally like the midwife a lot better than the doctors.
I love my midwives I used the same ones this pregnancy as I did in my first pregnancy and they remembered me and my history and are all very sweet its just more personal to me but like was said you can find good and bad in both so its up to you on who you like after I have medicaid so thankfully I dont have pay for them
Thank you ladies I might want one so that she can be hands on with me , I'm still goin to look into it.
I love my midwife! She's very hands on and cery personal. I had an OB at first and he was like kind of cold and I didn't feel comfortable. But that's obviously not all doctors. And after this one (my first) I plan to have another in maybe 5 years or more and will use a midwife then too :)
