as far as I am aware im 17w 3d pregnant. ive been told last night at the hospital im having a boy. my question is how wrong can an ultrasound be. also wondering if an ultrasound can be off by 4weeks maybe 5w with a first ultrasound being 8w.

I have accidently posted in the wrong place im so sorry.. It does concern paternity. I just want to make sure my boyfriend is the father and not my friend..

An u/s isn't fail proof, but it's pretty accurate.  

At 17 weeks, the gender would be pretty obvious to the sonographer.  As for the dating, it could be off by a few days to a week or so, but no, not typically 4-5 weeks off.  Are you concerned about paternity (as in who is the father)?

Usually, the OB will use the date of your last monthly cycle (the start date of it) and the u/s to sort of compare to make sure the dating is fairly accurate.  The u/s would be the more definitive method, though, especially at 17+ weeks.

I have an obvious question...how does this relate to relationships, or did you maybe post your question in the wrong forum?
