Get a baby bullet! We received one as a shower gift and its perfect for making your own baby food, includes storage containers and recipe book
We made most of our own baby food. Many fruits like banana and avocado can just be smushed by hand but with veggies we simply steamed them (peeling first if needed) and pureed with an immersion blender. If it needed to be thinned out especially early on (6-9 months) we used some of our stash of pumped breastmilk - I think that helped my son with new food introductions because it included a familiar and soothing flavor. Later we'd use some of the water used to steam the veggies, which retained a lot of nutrients. Parsnips were a big favorite. After a while we started to add little bits of seasoning to widen his pallette - anything but salt, really, that was complimentary and added new flavors. After the first stage of eating just one food at a time he started in with easier and simpler versions of adult food - fajitas without the spicy sauce, little-bite pastas with chicken or ham, cheese, and diced veggies, yogurt or applesauce with fruit added, stir-fry minus the sauce and everything adapted to finger-food style so he could feed himself. He's three now and eats almost everything we eat - he's got a pretty well-rounded diet.
I plan on doing the same and I too am a Chef. I want to buy one of those nutri bullets. This will be my first time but I come from a family of chefs and they make their own baby food. Therefore, I will be asking them tons of questions lol
Pinterest has awesome recipes!! And I think I also found this neat thing that after you make the baby food you put it into these little pouches to keep the extras fresh :)
Wow, never heard of this or even had the thought cross my mind. Something im definitely going to consider doing now! Thanks ladies
I remember my mom making my sister and brother all kinds of veggies. She would blend the veggies in the blender. If she would make chicken she would use the chickens water where it was boiled to blend it with rice etc. You can basically blend anything. She would also blend beans but would take the skin off sense it can get stuck on the babies stomach. She would also give my sister egg yolk just the inside not the white part.
Np. It's refreshing to know women are doing this more again now. It is actually super easy not to mention saves a ton of money and baby is healthier for it :) win win win. A jar of baby food is fifty cents to over a dollar while you can buy a oie of fruit and get at keast four servings. It's amazing.
Sounds awesome thank you so much! I hope other mommies make their baby home made food too it is much easier to control what goes into you babies tummy! Also I would probably purchase everything organic to be sure there's no hormones it pesticides ;)
You start off very simple. I made all my daughter baby food uo until almost a year old. You basically just use enough water to make the proper texture for your babies age. Also some fruits and veggies require peeling if they aren't bought organic. You can easily find alot of good one online. Simple is key only one ingredient at a time so if the baby has a reaction you will know what it is from. They also have starter cook books for baby foods that give you the proper tomes to start trying certain foods.
I'm planning the same. But this will be my first time. I've saved some recipes and ways to cook the food on my computer from pinterest. Good luck.
