I need stories to prove a myth right or wrong.

I heard the heart beat of my baby for the first time yesterday. Excited I told my friend who said the heart rate would mean my baby was the opposite gender I'm hoping for. (I will be happy as long as it's healthy)

"A normal heart rate for an unborn baby 120-160 beats per minute, according to Dr. Larissa Hirsch writing for the kids health website."

THE MYTH
140 bpm or faster it's a girl, and a rate lower than 140bpm signals a boy.

I asked my doctor about this and she said what happens when you run up some stairs? Your heart rate goes up, it doesn't change your gender.

My baby's heartrate started at 170 and consistently stays in the 140s to 150s now. I'm having a boy.

Heartrate for gender is an old wives tale, absolutely no scientific evidence to back it.

My daughter was a consistent 155 but with this baby its been as low as 133 and as high as 168 and its a boy ...it really is a myth but its always nice to think we as mommys can guess what our child is

My son's has always been high. Between 156 and 174 at each visit and we're 24weeks 2 days :) it depends on how active your baby is. Also, it does not make a difference as to how far along you are. My son at 12 weeks was 174 and now at 24 weeks back and forth between 150s to 162. It's a myth :) but their fun to do! The Chinese gender predictor worked for us and the baking soda one worked also! :)

Thank you all! I'll be okay with either gender but it really bothered me ...she was so determined that she told me I needed to pick a different name for my child. I know there is no way to know for sure but I've just been really hopeful that it will be what I've prayed for.

My son's first heart rate reading was 180. It has since always been above 140. The myth is all it is, a myth. It's not true.

It's a dead myth because it really all depends on how far along you are. Obviously the heart beat will be faster at 10 weeks than it was at 9 weeks, etc. You can't go by a myth like that when the myth doesn't even know how far along you are.
