.. im just concern for the both of you, if you can quit why not . this is the time to quit. cigarette smoking during pregnancy increases of premature birth, certain birth defects and may also lead to infants death.
LOL! a bit of gums and candies relieves me sometime.
I assure you, what i said is not an opinion.
I think as soon as women hear from their drs that "they should cut down/wean" they get it in their heads that that is what they need to do then. As i understand i believe you dont live in America, i may be wrong but here everyone is sue happy.
I think if a doctor doesnt say that they could be sued for malpractice and it is incredibly sad as well as a growing trend for them to stay on the safe side.
I think people take it and run and in their defense "well my dr told me my baby is at risk if i quit cold turkey"
I am incredibly proud of myself for quitting while pregnant as should anyone be but im not about to speak for someone in regards to their stress level and what they would feel due to withdrawels. I dk anyone personally on this site.
That is my opinion.
And thats your opinion but each doctor differs as my hospital advise you to bin the cigarettes immediately. Hence why I advised this girl to speak to her doc..
I agree each body is different but scaring women suggesting quiting cold turkey would make them lose their baby is wrong. Millions quit cold turkey others cut down first I think anyone who quits should feel proud of themselves however it was done.
My dr told me absolutely not to use e cogs vapors and the like as there are chemical s in there that have not been tested and they have not been approved by the fda. He also suggested that I use the patch to quit. Check with your local health department. Ky has free stop smoking classes.
I think you should the British show "bad mums to be". (Not saying you're one!) But I randomly came across the show and it talks about the risks of bad habits. for me, I was eating a lot of pizza because I crave it a lot. After watching the show, I stopped eating so much pizza. I know it's way different than quitting smoking, but a lot of people participating in the show successfully quit after the midwives show them what is happening to their baby. And it's very important to quit now because even if your baby is fine for now, you don't want them to inhale any second hand smoke after they're born!

Im not trying to call you out or anything, but everyones body handles stress differently. That is why doctors dont reccommend quitting cold turkey, our bodies have a dependence on cigarettes and it differs between each smoker. I would never call myself an "addict" even though ive smoked a long time and managed to quit cold turkey.
It is a fact that we suffer from withdrawels after quitting, some do more then others. I literally felt stoned for 2 weeks after i quit. Lol it was weird. Anyway mind you this is all going to baby, the longer one smokes while pregnant the more baby will suffer withdrawels because they also become dependant on nicotine.
Avoiding coffee/tea and coke help me. Coz omg a ciggy with that combination was like omg. Lolz . This helped me. Venting, chewing gum,walks,e-cig, sleeping. I had lots of tantrums and tears and my man faced all my woes and his support was amazing lol.the bad thing is. Because i could taste food better from quiting and i had the pregnancy super nose and cravings i gaind 20kg.im now 39+2 i cant wait to hit the gym .
@MINNA1996 - telling people not to quit cold turkey is bs! .. thousands of women quit cold turkey and as they say "each cigarette does more damage" ...
I don't see how quitting cigarettes could make anyone loose their unborn when smoking causes miscarriage prem labour etc.
But whatever makes you feel better about yourself.
Octavia I think its brilliant you want to quit and I wish you every sucess - ask your dr for advice because all opinions here are just that opinions.
However I'd recommend when you do crave a cig take five mins break to breath relax and drink something. Because we all still need our chill out :) best of luck ! :)
My dr reccommended against e cigs. Vapes. And even disposables. Just because its more than water vapor in there. Be careful with those!
Thank you ladies so much..
Funny some of u should mention I should try gum n candies cause I've been travelling with packs and packs of those in my handbag
But il limit myself on the cigs per day and try those candies and gum
Im 36 weeka and still smoke. I feel absolutely horrible and so afraid that something will be wrong with my baby. I am now down to 2 iggarettes a day. I worked very hard to get here. I quit cold turkey at 28 weeks for 5 days and noticed a severe decrease in movement and visited my doctor for an emergency ultra sound. My baby boys heart rate and slowed amd I had to stay on a monitor for 6 hours. It was the scariest thing that I have ever been through. Anyways, my doctor help make me a schedule to quit SLOWLY! my little man was traumatized by me quitting all at once. It was to much for him. My advice is to talk to ur doctor he/she can help you.
It's all mind over matter ! U have to be prepared and done mentally! Try the vaporizer cigs. Works great ! Or just put it down and tell yourself NO!!! It's hard but the thaught of my child's health was enough for me. Goodluck
yeah it maybe too hard for you to quit .
but this time , its not your health issues anymore. its between you and to the baby.
you may also try chewing some candies or gums everytime you want to attempt smoking, it will help you.
Xocheyxo I don't know where you got your information but it is always better to quit smoking. Every single puff you take crosses the placenta, putting your baby in danger. And it also takes precious oxygen away from your baby.
Babies born to smokers are at risk of being a low birth weight, being born premature and are also at risk of having under-developed lung capacity and SIDS.
To the OP, it is hard, but you can do it. Talk to your dr about self help methods, maybe try nicotinell gum or patches(but speak to your dr first to find out how safe they are during pregnancy)
Best of luck
I'm pregnant and just quit two weeks ago. Its very VERY hard. Just cut back how many you have a day. And don't buy anymore at the store. I also bought mints and gum and everytime I wanted one I'd pop a peice in. Once you get past the 3 day mark I feel like it gets easier. You got this just stay positive!
yeah as soon as i found out i was pregnant i never smoked again. quitting isnt as hard as you think i promise. i thought it would be so hard....but it wasnt. maybe try cutting back to 2-3 a day for a couple days then one for a couple days.... then no more. i smoked for 5+ years and i thought it would be impossible.....but it wasnt....i promise you can do it. you will feel so much better.
or you could try @ladybeeleys way thats a great idea!!!!
but good luck momma. i know you can do it. :)
@ash its great that it worked for you but dont sit here and say ist bs. Quiting cold turkey is more dangerous than smoking during pregnancy. Just because it is more dangerous doesnt mean there are women like you that end with a happy ending. I almost lost my baby when i went through whithdrawl amd my doctor actually had me smoke and we have a set plan to wean me off.
Talk to your doctors they can be a huge help creating a quitting plan and keeping you and baby healthy
Throw away your cigarettes and don't buy anymore. Definitely look up how smoking affects your baby
Bullcrap about not quitting cold turkey I'd been smoking 6yrs when I got pregnant with my first bby I quit immediately cold turkey. Unfortunately went straight back on them after her birth .... smoked constantly again for the next five years and quit cold turkey again when I found out at five weeks pregnant.
Like ladybeely said a cold water bottle is amazing :) that got me through. ..
and look up affects of smoking while pregnant.
Have you tried a vaporizer cig they have the juice with no nicotine it helped me slow down and then I just eventually quit I've also heard don't stop cold turkey it puts more stress on your baby...just try slowing down give your self a max number of cigs a day and just gradually lessen than #...good luck :)
You can quit while pregnant. You just cant quit cold turkey. You have to wean yourselr off of ot. I lve been a smoker for 4 years and i quit cold turkey as soon as i found out i was pregnant.
I was disgusted at the thought of smoking while pregnant before i got pregnant and i couldnt wean myself off. I am not suggesting this method but that was how it went down for me. But you can do it. Everyone has to find their own way!
Ecigs are a good alternative. You can get juice without nicotine, and it still gives you the satisfaction of having something to take a drag off. Plus, the juice is quite tasty!
I was told that if you have been smoking while pregnant dont stop until after the baby is born because your baby is going to go through withdrawal if you quit and its bad for the baby maybe try cutting down to only a few smokes a day instead
I substituted a water bottle every time I wanted a cigarette. It helped with the hand to mouth movement and also the more water you drink the faster it pumps out already existing nicotine in your body and makes the craving less strong.
