Why do I see so many women trying to start labor???!!! Those last weeks r so very important!! My goodness ladies.
There is enough controversy over it that in itself suggests to me it's a bad idea.. The women who are saying its not good for 'x' reasons are correct and anyone with a real medical degree would say so.. If you're hell bent on inducing labor on your own accord that early it would be best to use something safer..
@shiny in my medical and even in the nursing classes they all advise against castor oil. Its a laxative which like everyone says causes dehydration, bowel movements for mother and baby. It may not cause baby to go but there is a big possibility to it. Thats why alot of women always so dont try it.
Coming from my OB (one of the best in NYS) it's a class D drug, and there's no sense in arguing over it, if you do it, it's on you if something happens to your child, I know personally I wouldn't do anything to risk the health of my child, at all.
Its funny how everyone jumped about how bad castor oil is. but when i look it up. i see midwives all over recommend it. I also tried to find where it says it a class d drug. I didn't find anything. As for saying it causes the first bowel movement. your baby can pass that by itsself at 38 weeks.
Why do so many woman want to induce labour at 37 weeks, pregnancy is 40 weeks for a reason!!
I wouldn't do it. It may or may not work, it may or may not make your baby have their first bowel move instead. I couldn't take a chance, even a little chAnce on maybe hurting my unborn child. You only have three weeks or so left. Your baby will come when he or she is ready.
Evening primrose oil is much safer
i drank it with my second child i was 39w4 my doc wanted me to wait two more weeks for him to induce me i drank it start to have contration water break had baby a couple of hours later..not saying will work for you i think you should wait at leat until 39 weeks maybe baby comes by then..
Dont Do IT!!! your gonna crap your pants !! no all seriousness let the baby come on its own. Its not time if the baby is not here yet. Patience is the best Advice.

Castor oil is the most disgusting thing ever!! Don't do it!! Your baby is barely considered full term and clearly isn't ready. I know it's hard, but wait!!!
Castor oil is considered a class D medicine during pregnancy, and one of the most dangerous you can take..pregnancy isn't supposed to be comfortable and pleasant at the end, as I'm sure you heard long before you got pregnant. Like the ladies have said, if he was ready to come he'd be here, he's not. My sister took castor oil and her son shot into the birth canal so quickly it wrapped the cord around his neck 3 times, she ended up in emergency c-section, and her son came out blue and not breathing. Thank god he's okay, but he could've died or had mental retardation from lack of oxygen for that long. It's not safe.
Try evening primrose oil, its far less evasive and you can insert the capsules to help soften the cervix. Most of the women iv seen that use it start at about 37-38 weeks.
Instead try getting someone to massage your feet lower legs and ankles that's what got need into labor for my first plus it would be so much better for your baby and so much more enjoyable for you aswel must better than being stuck on the toilet lol
nipple stimulation!!!! and if your having contractions from the nipple stimulation, CONTINUE WITH IT! and at least try sex....Castor Oil is NOT safe........
I do not recommend castor oil. It is not only disgusting taste wise but the texture is just as bad if not worse. It doesn't work on everybody and will either make you get the runs or vomit profusely. If you are serious about trying something to help yourself along I suggest evening primrose oil. But talk to your dr first. Good luck :-)
Try squating, walks, warm bath etc. I think when baby is ready and your body is as well he or she will come. I wouldn't use the castor oil. In my medical class I learned alot of nasty things it does to you and baby.
I took castor oil with 2 out of 3 of my pregnancys. It worked. Neither of the babies were effected by it. Is it pleasant? Noo.. The taste is nasty, and the contractions come really hard on top of having to go to the bathroom. I am also 37+4 dialated to 1, with my 4th. The doctor is gonna try a membrane sweep tomorrow. If that doesn't work I'm doing the oil again.
Please reconsider Castor oil as the above have mentioned. It's just too risky. You only have 3 weeks left. May seem like an eternity but you can do it. The longer that baby stays in the better for lung development etc. Baby will come when it's ready.
I'm 39w5d dilated 1 cm let the baby come naturally on its own. What work for others may not work for you.
And honestly, there's nothing wrong with being dilated to 1 cm. Many women don't even have that much at that point, and it doesn't mean something is wrong. You still have 3 weeks to go.
Castor oil is not healthy for you or baby. Makes a lot of people vomit or get runs. Try walking or doing squats or sex. Baby will come soon enough!
