Gallstones and 22 weeks pregnant

I am 22 weeks pregnant and just diagnosed with gallstones on Monday.  The pain has not gone away and I have not been able to eat or drink anything without being sick afterwards...  I went back to the ER today and they did absolutely nothing!  They monitored the babys heartrate and that was it, didn't run any tests on me and didn't give me any meds for the pain.  what the heck am I supposed to do?

I'm glad that you got a good doctor who took care of you.  I hope that you have something to take for the recovery pain.  I bet you will be feeling much better now and will enjoy the rest of your pregnancy so much more.

I hope you are on the road to recovery!!  I had my gull bladder removed a few years ago and feel SO much better since!  It's nice to be able to eat without getting violently ill and having horrible pain.

I went back to the ER on Friday the 13th and was admitted that night, fortunately the on call OB was a great Dr and actually came in to see me that night.  I had my gallbladder removed on Monday and am now at home recovering.  Hopefully all of this pain will go away!!

If I were you, I would go back to the ER, or to an ER at a different hospital and demand they take you seriously.  In some cases, the stress caused by pain and not eating can be worse on your body and in turn, the baby than them giving you something for the pain.  Unfortunately many doctors are not educated or are misinformed about pain medication, and the effects of chronic or acute pain in pregnancy.
I hope that this gets better for you soon!

I haven't been able to eat anything.  Since Monday I've eaten 2 pieces of bread (didn't keep it down), water, apple juice and broth.  This pain is making me miserable, I can't even sleep at night.  I really hope it goes away soon, it's going on day 5 of constant pain.  Everything I've read online says if your pain doesn't go away and you aren't able to keep anything down, to go straight to the ER but when I did that, they didn't even run any tests.  Just so frustrating.

i was diagnosed with gallstones at about 15 weeks (i think). I feel your pain. To start with now that you have been formally diagnosed with gallstones the hospital should be able to give you some form of pain killers to help counteract the attacks. In the beginning the milder attacks i was given a codeine based tablets which helped take away most of the pain. However if it was big attacked i landed in L+D for Pethidine and they admitted me on to the ward for 3 days at a time. My best advice is strip you diet to bare min, very simple foods, no fat. Towards the end of my pregnancy i got to the point where i couldnt eat anything, everytime i had the attacks i had to go in for monitoring. I think once you hit 24-26 weeks the OB can help, and you can be treated in L+D (not sure if its the same where you live) 5 weeks after Lily was born i had it removed.
