I don't like needles but my worst fear is the needle that's going into my back.
Btw I am a phlebotomist. & I have hard veins to get to so I've always hated getting blood drawn or an IV lol so I understand your nervous.
And doctors are usually against using it during pregnancy so unless you discuss it with them before hand, im not sure they'll give it to you.
I typically pass out when someone tries to give me a shot. I don't use anything for IVs and stuff though. Just don't look at it and have music or something playing. And make sure you get the best nurse there to put it in. With both my kids and I will do the same with this one, when I went in I told them I wanted the nurse best with IVs because my veins are hard to get into. And if they can't think of one there that is better than the others, I tell them to get me a phlebotomist to put it in. After all they are trained specifically to put needles in veins and do it hundreds of times a day. Also hospitals keep a numbing cream in the pediatric unit, you could always ask them to get some but they are probably in a nice way going to tell you to suck it up because your are fixing to push a baby out your vjj.
It does work. It numbs the skin for up to 30 minutes. Usually we only use it on young kids, or the elderly. You could ask if they can give it to you, but the pinch from an IV honestly isn't that bad. It's really is just Mind over matter. Good luck.
