down syndrome test

So I'm 14wks and my doctor says I'm high risk cause my last pregnancy 8 months ago was an ectopic, but now their sending me to get a test done to see if my baby has down syndrome cause my uncle had downs. I don't know what to expect is it going to take long, is it dangerous, what exactly do they do I'm just so scared. Please if you've had the test let me know what all happens.

They told my cousins that her child had down syndrome and that she had thr option to continue with the pregnacy or have an abortion and she went and had the baby anyways and turns out my nephew is a healthy little boy nothing wrong with him so they ask me if i wanted to get the test done since my brother child has down syndrome but i said no and am putting in on gods hands (:

I had the test its not scary at all its some blood tests and a quick ultrasound. I dont see the harm in it especially if you were recommended to have the test

When I was 14 weeks I had the quad screening and my baby came back high risk for down syndrome. Two weeks later I had the MaternaT21 test done and my baby came back negative for downs and I found out she was a girl:) The test takes less than a minute because all they do is draw blood then they call you a week later with the results. If your doctor suggests an amniocentesis, ask if she offers the MaternaT21 because it is noninvasive and there are no risks involved unlike the amnio.

I think even if you would love your baby the same it's still a good idea to get it just so you know ahead of time I had it done everything was fine it was just a blood test

I refuse the test with my babies. I got it with my first and the results came back she had every birth defect out there just about. Any birth defect test they did came back positive and ultrasound backed it up. They fought with me and insisted I just abort her. I refused and told them that it was not an option. My daughter was born 36 weeks @ 8 1/2 pounds beautiful and no defects.

To me it isn't worth it to even test. I would love my baby the same regardless, and I would rather not know. What is knowing going to change? Nothing at all. You would love your baby just the same so why risk it and stress yourself out. Like the other women said, just because your uncle has it does not mean your child will.

I've never gotten the test with any of my kids because they recommend it for older mom's and I wasn't in that age bracket to be concerned with it and I don't have any family history with it but I've had friends who've had the test done. From what I've been told the test isn't always accurate so try not to stress too much over it. Just relax and hope for the best. I hope your baby is perfectly healthy and you don't have any complications. Good luck momma!

My aunt got it done with her daughter they said that she had it and she don't she is a straight A student and a senior now. Everyone I talked to told me not to get it done and my doctor even recommended that I didn't even worry about it.

I think most women get the Downs screening. Mine was a 3 part test. 2 blood draws and 1 ultrasound to measure the rolls on the back of the neck. I have the 3rd part/ultrasound in 6 days. It is a very common test, so I wouldn't be worried. Also, just because your uncle has it, doesn't mean you baby will. I always say, prepare for the worst but hope for the best. Try not to stress unless your test comes back with signs of a problem. I know it's hard but the more you stress, the worse it is for you and baby.
