hgc levels are fairly reliable (especially if measure at the same lab for repeat tests), but don't let your dr pressure you into this if you dont think you are ready. I'm not saying infeaction is not a possibility, but I think you would be ok to wait a week or two to see how you are progressing. I found out I was having an ectopic pregnancy at 8 weeks and my dr let me go almost another 2 weeks before it was time to end the pregnancy due to serious signs of stress to my body. I wasn't comfortable terminating a pregnancy if there was ANY chance of it working out. It wasn't until I was about 10 weeks along, in dire pain (I wanted to die), no fetal sac pole or heartbeat could be found, and I started bleeding internally that she finally said I had to do something before I started losing important body parts.

Do what feels right. I would say wait. Infections are not so bad to clear up if you do get one. And I think I could live with an infection much easier than terminating a pregnancy. Good luck hun!

I agree with you. at 5 weeks its not fully visible yet. around 6 weeks you can USUALLY see it by vaginal ultrasound, and 6.5 weeks the normal way. USUALLY! NOT ALWAYS. and if you feel the urge to disagree, do it! tell you're doc you want to wait until you are comfortable with it. If it was me, i would wait until 8 weeks. and if still no change, then i would consent. but thats just me. good luck hun and keep us posted!

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I think it is too early for your doctor to be saying that you are risking infection if you don't do a dnc. You can definitely wait a few weeks to see what happens. I m/c naturally 3x and it was fine. Dnc is not without risk, and I've seen quite a few posts on here from women who had complications from a dnc who say even if a pregnancy is not viable, to wait and see if a m/c will happen naturally before opting for dnc. Best of luck to you.

hi amanda, i just saw your post and was curious if you had hcg levels checked in the ectopic pregnancy you mentioned. if so, were they indicative of an EP or did it come as a surprise to you? i am in the early stages and have a history of EP so i'm pretty concerned about my pregnancy. i posted something in the miscarriage forum that explains my situation entitled "Possible ectopic pregnancy???" Thank you to everyone for being willing to share your experiences!

Check out misdiagnosedmiscarriages.com...its a SUPER site, and will tell you all about your situation and so on. I had suffered from a blighted ovum 4 months before the pregnancy I mentioned above. I chose not to have the d&c or the pill to induce and waited it out. They should tell you the signs to look for. Obvious ones, like bleeding alot,, fever and chills etc. Where do you live? See a diff doc like you said. I will keep you in my prayers.
You are fine to wait, trust me . I was about 12 weeks when I miscarried fully. I always had hope and I think for some, that is all we need. Someone else has our map made out already. Please scheck out that site though.

my daughter was measuring 2 weeks behind.. according to my lmp i was supposed to be 7 weeks but the ultrasound showed she was 5 weeks and no fetus was seen, just a sac.
i then had bleeding 2 weeks later and went to the ER.. we got an ultrasound and heard her heartbeat for the first time!!
do NOT do a D&C.

Wow, this just makes me so angry! I am seeing so much of this lately. If it wasnt for my gut instinct not to have a D&C I wouldn't have a beautiful 11 month old daughter. I wasnt able to see her until I was just shy of 9 weeks(3 days) after many many scans. They suggested the procedure which I denied. I also had high numbers, they said they should see something by that time...THEY WERE WRONG!  My beautiful girl is walking around playing as we speak. Thank God :)
PLEASE wait a few weeks, even up to 10 if you can.
Your numbers look good though.
Wishing you the very best.

wait another 2-3 weeks!  those are great numbers I agree with anya demand another ultrasound before any decision is made.  If your doc won't do the US wait 2 weeks and go to the ER.  They cannot make you have a surgery, If she is insistent tell her you would rather let nature take it's course then in a few weeks hopefully you little one appears on US :).

wow, your initial HCG levels are very high, was it drawn on the 15th day after conception? In any case, I would wait another 2-3 weeks before doing d&c. Even though the HCG level didn't double, miracles happen. At 5 weeks, there shouldn't really be any fetal pole, wait another 2 weeks and go again for an u/s!
