my friens has had to have it done with all 6 of her pregnancies due to damage after a termination nearly 30 yrs ago.All have had a sucessful outcome and they have taken the stitch out at around 37wks, all babies have been fine, and after a couple of weeks of taking it easy she was back to normal activities, although she isnt one for excercise, but she drove and looked after all of her children no probs.
Most women I have seen have it done are also on bed rest, so you wouldn't move from your bed except to see a doctor and use the bathroom. And maybe shower. Your doctor would be able to explain specifics to you, as they know your medical history better.
Thanks for your reply. I was told and also I did some research online. It seems that if the cervical cerlage was done between 14 to 18 weeks, it will probably sucessful and the mother can have a term baby too. I am just wondering if anyone could tell me if it might cause any problems to the baby and if the mother can still have normal activity such as working, driving, etc.
I was told the same thing that i might have to get it done. 18wks this i went for a normal u/s and showed my cervix was short and i had two doctors taking care of me one wanted to do it there and now and the other one wanted me to stay in the hospital for the weekend and monitor my cervix which ended up getting longer to where i could go home but have been on bedrest since. I really wish i would of got it done because since then my cervix has gone up and down my last u/s showed that it was hsort again 2.2cm. At 25wks i was air lifted to another hospital 5 hours away b/c i went into preterm labor but things with perterm has slowed down but if i had the stitch i could be doing alot better. Next time you do get pg. i would get it done, but there is cons that go with it as well and it can cause membrane aruption (water braking).
A friend of mine had it done years ago. She had a weak cervix and around 3 1/2 months she had to have it done. In her case, they went on to have a healthy baby girl. As far are normal activity, they restricted from just about everything but working, driving...that was ok. Just not heavy lifting, sex, exercise..none of that!
Good luck
