My levels at exactly 6 weeks were 21100, I am having twins. Hope this helps :)
After about six weeks the HCG varies so much and is not reliable. Generally at that time if there is a concern your OB does and ultrasound becasue that is more accurate. Did the OB seem concerned? If not than don't sweat it. I know high HCG can mean multiples or birth defects of some kind but again at 9 weeks I am not sure how accurate that statement is usually it is the first 6 weeks that they monitor HCG.
what heather said is true, my pregnancy started with two babies but i had the vanishing twin syndrome, Only a ultrasound can let you know do not let that startle you and if that is the case the surviving baby is usually healthy. (in which that is the case of any baby) You could have more than one or you could just have a thriving baby!
I have heard that 1 in every 8 of us, start life in the womb as twins. That may explain SOME reasons why HCG levels are high in some women early in the pregnancy, then settle down to fall among the "normal" levels, several weeks into the pregnancy.
Just a thought.....I think that this is a cool factoid...imagine the possiblity of YOU being a twin and never knew it. One in eight pregnancy's is alot higher that I would have imagined. Conception and pregnancy is such a miracle anyway, that even today at middle age, I still find it fascinating and wonderous.
All the best Jaxie, if it's multiples. It must be so hard waiting on the u/s to really find out.
Best Wishes to you all,
Heather

jaxie- that is possible with multiples. But it could also mean one really strong singleton. Can't wait to find out if there's one or more!
When I first checked it was 69 (I was like 2 weeks pregnant). Four days later it jumped to 700 (making my 3-4 weeks pregnant) and two days after that it went to 3,046 (still being about 3-4 weeks pregnant). My mother's sisters are fraternal twins, so there are multiples in my family. I work with a woman who had an HCG level of 1800 at 5 weeks pregnant. I am now about 6 weeks pregnant and haven't checked another HCG since the last one which was 3000 at about 4 weeks. I am scheduled for an u/s....BUT am soooo curious! The doctors I work for are all convinved I'm having at least 2, but who knows until that u/s. What were your numbers?
How far along are you? What were your levels? Only an u/s can tell if you're having multiples. I did have high levels at the beginning and I'm having multiples so it's a possibility!!
yeah i wasn't sure. i heard they are supposed to double every 2-3 days...and mine would triple or quadruple and was told that is common with multiples...so didn't know if anyone else had experienced that....
My HCG levels were SUPER high. Like by the time I was 9 weeks, it had gone up to 123,000+ and I'm only pregnant with one baby. I'm not sure if the nubmers vary or not if you have multiples. I think the higher the HCG the healthier your pregnancy. So, congrats!
