Help Please! possible miscarriage ?

Hi my girlfriend is 9 weeks pregnant. She had a miscarriage in april ago. She has been experiencing normal pregnancy symptoms, back pain, frequent urination, etc. For 4 or 5 days she was experiencing very sharp pains in her pelvic area that were extremely painful. The pains got a little less strong. The pains then came back as strong as ever a couple days later and this time she bled. She was wiping after she urinated and found a relatively light amount of blood down there. When she went a little later there was more blood when she wiped. The bleeding then went away for a couple days while the pains continued. In the past four days, she started off with somewhat heavy bleeding which has gotten lighter, and heavier and lighter and heavier over these days. Her pains have been so severe at times that she could barely walk around. However the bleeding has not yet become what I would call heavy. The bleeding however is definitely red and the bleeding is constant, albeit somewhat light. She changes her pads so often that I'm honestly not sure how light the bleeding actually is.

Also, she has not had morning sickness as bad in the last couple days or so as she was having earlier on in her pregnancy. It is important to note we went to the doctors 2 or so weeks ago and told him about the sharp, bad pains, and he said that she was close to a miscarriage and put her on bedrest. I should also note that she is only 4'11 100 pounds. Can anybody help me decipher this situation? Btw, doesn't spotting only happen during the first week after fertilization?

I have just been told that sometimes the later the miscarriage the body might not do things on its own, that is why i suggested the ultasound. Especially since the Dr had already said it looked like a m/s might happen. and then she had more pain and bleeding after that

Thank you very much.  There still has not been any clots or tissue passed, anymore info on fetal expulsion at week 9? someone said it's hard to happen, which could mean a d & c if this is happening.

Spotting would be considered drops of blood.  Bleeding would be considered constant.  I think that your girlfriend needs to get to a doctor.  Sharp pains are not normal, dull pains or aches are normal.  So, based on that... and I am no doctor, I would have taken her to the doctor or ER already  Hopefully she isn't miscarrying.  Wish you two the best.

The amount of a period is heavy bleeding.  I have to say that you seem to know an aweful lot about the bleeding of a period. haha.   My husband knows nothing about it except I spend extra money once a month and extra precautions during sex.  I dont know how either of you are keeping so calm and have not already made the trip to the er.  I know at the first sight of a tiny swipe, I was on the phone with the doc demanding some answers.  It is very common to go to the er for this or to call the doctor first thing in the morning.  It could be normal for her body, but it could also be something that she needs to be checked out for.  Please take care of this tomorrow morning!

It does sound like a "threatened miscarriage", but you wouldn't know for sure without an ultrasound. With the symptoms you are describing, I would be surprised if an MD didn't order an ultrasound to check this out. Also, if she is miscarrying, there is a potential for hemorrhage. If the heavy bleeding is persistent, you could go to an emergency room to be evaluated if she can not get into the MD right away.

are you the same person that posted a few weeks ago about not knowing if this was the same pregnancy or not from april and not having sex since the m/c?  Just wondering, sorry.

You definatly need to get her to the doctor.  You actually have a cause to take her to the er right now and get an answer RIGHT NOW.  That is probably your best bet.  Some people do bleed and go on to have a healthy baby.  I bled from week 5-10, probably not what you are describing, but still had a healthy baby boy.  Good Luck!

Really I didn't know the fetus is harder to expel later in the pregnancy, but I guess that makes sense.  any more information on that? thank you.

I think she needs to go and get an ultrasound done. That will give you the best knowledge about whether she has miscarried or if the baby is on track. I am 9 weeks this week also and have cramping and some bleeding (not as much as you describe) and have had brown discharge for the last 5 days. We did an u/s and hte baby was on track and the Dr said all we can do is wait and see what happens. Sometimes starting around 9 weeks and later the body may not expel the fetus on its own and she would have to get a d&c.
Good luck
