I would recommend drinking protein type shakes or eating bars. There are a lot our there that are healthy and pack a high amount of calories into a smaller amount of food which makes it easier to meet your calorie needs. If you are high risk then the Dr. should be explaining why you are high risk and what they want you doing. So if you are high risk because they are worried about you not gaining weight then I would assume there was not anything else they were concerned about. But I would talk to the Dr. the next time and make sure. Focus on having an open relationship with the Dr. and asking all your questions.
I'm high-risk, though for very different reasons, and I have my regular OB, my perinatologist (high-risk OB) and another specialist all making sure me and my baby girl are okay. It means a lot of doctor's appointments, but it also means you get to see and hear baby a lot more than usual, and get a lot of good medical advice.
I love the ultrasound machines at my high-risk OBs office, they're so much better than the regular OB so you get to really see the baby in detail, and you usually have a lot more ultrasounds to check on the baby at the perinatologist. Overall, they're not real scary, they'll keep a good eye on your vitals and the baby, and make sure that you're doing okay as mom.
Just take care of yourself. If you have problems gaining weight do what the doctors says. It sounds like you just need to take care of yourself and just be on it.
I had a high risk pregnancy but I had twins and I'm such a tiny person. All they did was monitor the babies more and told me to take it easy I could even stand for ten minutes straight without getting lightheaded ready to faint.
Take care of yourself and I'm sure everything willbe fine. Just think, ur almost half way their!!
:) hope everything goes good for you and your baby
