How to write a birth plan...

When I went to the dr on Friday, she said that she recommends writing a birth plan because she is also pregnant, about 6 or 9 weeks behind me, but just in case something were to happen, and I end up with a dr I've never met, she suggested having everything written down ahead of time...I know I posted before about the birth plan, and someone said they had suggestions on how to write it, I just can not for the life of me remember who, and I cleaned out my recent posts recently because I had SOOO many! SO...for those who have written one, how the h3ck do I write it out? I need a Writing Birth Plans for Dummies book! LOL. I haven't got a clue...

There are websites that have tools to help you.  They ask questions and give you answers to choose from.  You might try doing a google search for birth plan creators and go through some of them to get an idea.

There are some websites that can help you write it.   birth plan . com is one I used to get an idea of some things to add to it.  I put mine it three sections, one for during labor, one for after labor, then one about me wanting to breastfeed.  Here's what mine looks like:

During labor:

- I would Like to walk around as much as possible
- Have use of the Hot Tub as long as possible
- I would like to be informed of the last possible moment I’m allowed any pain medication
- I do not want pain medication unless labor becomes too hard for me, then I would prefer the IV method. I do NOT want an Epidural.
- I do NOT want my water broken (Unless 100% necessary)
- I do NOT want a c-section unless 100% necessary. If one is necessary:
o I would like to be fully informed on why it’s necessary and how long we can put it off aswell as other possible options.
o My husband will not be in with me and he will be given our baby immediately.
- I would prefer a tear to an episiotomy.
- I would like to be allowed to birth squatting, hands and knees, or another position if possible

After Labor:

- My husband will not cut the cord; I would like the option of possibly cutting the cord myself.
- I want the baby placed on my stomach/chest immediately after delivery while they finish
cleaning the baby up.
- I want to breastfeed as soon as possible after birth.
- I would like to have the baby evaluated in my husband’s or my presence.
- If the baby needs to be taken for medical treatment I would like my husband or another family member to be with the baby at all times.
- I would like the baby in the room with me at night, but will possibly send the baby to the nursery at night if she is keeping me awake. The baby will be brought to me for breastfeeding during the night if she is in the nursery. The baby will be with me during the day.

I will be breastfeeding

- I do not want our baby to have any bottles unless I’m unable to nurse.
- I would like to meet with a lactation consultant if possible.
- The baby is allowed to be given a pacifier.

Hope that helps!

oh yeah I thought of something else that maybe you could include...if you do wind up having to have surgery, if they needed to remove your tube(s) or uterus for some unknown reason(praying and knowing it wont happen (: ) would you want them to? I go to the dr. this week and i will ask my dr what kind of stuff they look for in one and get back withya

hmm I'm not too sure...I did however give my DH a list of medicines I do/dont want during delivery...If something were to happen to me where I wasnt able to speak for myself what I wanted..Like how long to let me labor before intervention ie csection...I think the biggest thing is how you want to labour what meds you are willing to take, if any...what you will NOT take...who all you want there( in the room) Thats all I can think of lol I really hope this helps sorry I couldnt do more

I never wrote one either time - nor did my OB ever suggest it....but I totally think it makes sense because there's a much higher chance that your doc won't be involved at all in your labour and delivery.  I hope someone can give you some good advice - sorry I can't be of any help :(
