I think I am having some problems w/ DR

I went to my doctor last week and the nurse measured me with the tape and said it was normal, she said my uterus was just above my pubic bone, everything is good. I went in again on Wednesday, a week and a day later, and I measured at 15 weeks, am suppose to be 12 wks and my uterus is about 2 inches above my belly button. After doing some reading my uterus isn't suppose to be above my belly button until about 20 something weeks. My Dr refues to do an ultrasound, until I am 20 wks by his count,  stating that the nurse is wrong and he is right. He didn't even check behind the nurse, he just blew her off. I could be carrying twins, I could have to much amniotic fluid, I could be further along and he could care less. I think I am going to be switching DRs. I  dont know. He really did well, helping us to get pregnant. But now that I am he won't answer my questions except to say, dont worry he knows what hes doing". I should be getting answers. Not only that I have been feeling movement for about 3 weeks now, which would put me further along in my pregnancy then he cares to admit. No one wants to help me. I have called Drs all morning. They just tell me I need to talk to my Dr. I can see how that's gonna go now.

Just call another doctor and make an appointment, don't say anything about the problem your having with your current doctor until you go there, then just tell them you are changing doctors because you aren't happy with your level of care.

My doctor doesn't begin measuring fundal heighth until 20w, but I CAN tell you that according to U/S my uterus measures several weeks ahead. this is my 2nd baby/pregnancy and by 15 weeks my uterus was level with my belly button. I don't have extra fluid and baby measures on time with my previous EDD of 12/25. my doctor AND the U/S tech told me that it's very common for a woman's uterus to measure ahead and later even out with how far along she is if she's had a previous pregnancy.

I agree with Mumita. Most doctors aren't even measuring fundal height anymore.

Manda, the tape meassure is NOT an accurate reading on how further along you are.  You have to base how long you are pregnant on your last menstrual period or your conception date  If originally they told you a certain date based on those numbers then go by that.  I started feeling some movement at around 15 weeks in my first pregnancy so they are not necessarily off base.  You will have an ultrasound in the next few weeks for an "anatomy scann" they will be able to tell you more about the development of the baby.  Sometimes the tape meassurement is off based on how much weight you have gained or haven't gained.
Also the first ultrasound that you got is the most accurate date for how far along you are, the further along you get it starts varying because not all babies grow at the exact same rate.

If I were you, I would get a second opnion.  There is not harm in it at all.  Besides, when it comes to your health and the health of your baby, you want your questions answered and you want attention if something might be off.

Thats what I thought. I have spent the morning calling all the DR I know, even urgent care and the health department and no one will help me. They say I need to demand an ultrasound, if he doesn't then I need to switch Drs. However he was the only Dr the helped my Dh and I concieve. I have endometreosis and PCOS. I thought he would be keeping a better eye on me, but guess not. Only thing I can do is get him to do what everyone else seems to think is necessary, an ultrasound. Or find a new DR. I just hope I dont need his help if we ever want baby number 2

I too would try to get another doctor if you can.  You need a doc that will listen to your concerns and give you answers if you need them.

I am a bit confused though....I am really surprised they are measuring your stomach already.  My doc doesn't do it until I am much further along, either at the end of my 2nd trimester or when I start my 3rd.  I can't remember exactly when he starts, but it is def when I have quite a tummy already before he actually measures.

Well, you could always go to the E.R. for "some" reason and perhaps they would do an ultrasound.  Your other option would be to see anyother DR to get a second opinion.  Not sure if you have them in NC, but if you could find a diagnostic center that does independent ultrasounds, you could pay for it yourself, just for piece of mind.

Good luck - - I'm sure this must be frustrating for you.
