I need a little advice and guidance...

Hello to all,
First off I am 20 years old and am married to a wonderful man! We have been trying to conceieve. We had sex a week or two before my period and we were trying to get pregnant, so no protection used. Well a week or two later I got a period and the day before my period I took two pregnancy tests both being negative. I guess my question is, Is it still possible I could be pregnant?

It's unlikely if you had negative results and your period. However, don't despair. It's rare that a couple conceives on their first try. I conceived both of my children the first month trying, but my mom took years of trying and several miscarriages before she finally had me...and a normal healthy couple with no fertility problems can take up to a year to conceive..sometimes longer! So don't give up. the best thing you can do is try to understand your cycle better. For instance...how long is it from the start of one period to the start of your next period, on average? This will help you determine about when you ovulate during each cycle which will give you the best chance of conceiving if you time your intercourse right. Generally 14 days before your expected period is your most fertile time...and you should have sex several days before and several days after this day to have the highest chance. If you want to understand your cycle even more in depth, you can do things like charting...you can take your Basal Body Temperature...you can monitor the position of your cervix and the type of cervical mucus you are having during the month...google these things or ask on here and the women will be able to give you some excellent advice on how to do all of this.

all of these techniques can help you increase your chances of conception, but the best thing to do is have loving, regular intercourse with your husband every few days during your cycle and sooner or later if you have no fertility problems you should conceive :).

Good luck

Definitely stop smoking now. The healthier the body is the easier it is to conceive plus the effects of smoking take awhile to leave your body and could still harm your child even if you stop the day you find out.

Also, start paying close attention to your body. Go to a Walgreens or Walmart and buy a Basal Body thermometer and take your temp. FIRST thing in the morning before you get out of bed. Before you ovulate (drop the egg) you should experience a drop in temp. and a noticeable increase the next day.

Check your cervical mucus daily. This means using a finger or two to check the inside of your vagina and see what the discharge feels like. After your period you will be mostly dry or sticky but closer to Ovulation your mucus should get wetter and thinner--- this means you are most likely fertile and should have unprotected sex.

You can find out more about this stuff online or by asking your doctor. If you decide to chart your basal body temperature, ******************* is an awesome website for you to keep track of your daily temps. It will use your temps. and mucus changes to calculate when you Ovulate.

I'm hoping we can get pregnant soon because he is in the military and is getting ready to deploy in January and we really want to get pregnant before then. I know this may sound weird but are there any suggestions on things i can do that might help my chances? I do smoke currently but planned on quitting as soon as I do get pregnant, but I have heard that quitting smoking now could increase my chances.. I guess just shoput out some ideas if you have any at all please.
Thanks,
Aly

It is highly unlikely especially if both tests said negative. The best time to get pregnant is about 2.5-2 weeks before you start your period. Don't give up because it can take healthy couples up to a full 12 months before conceiving. Good luck!
