Large shadow on my 7 week ultrasound.

Today I had my first ultrasound. Everything seemed to show up fine, the baby & sac measured to be what I was estimated (6 wks 5days give or take 2days) & we could see a strong heart beat of about 139 beats/min. What worries me is that also in the ultrasound there was a large shadow, about 3 to 4 times the size of the baby, just to the left of the baby. The nurse giving me the ultrasound was only trained in giving the ultrasound not reading it, she said she was not sure what that could be from. I am just wondering if this could be something normal or if it could be a sign I will miscarry?

Oh, that makes sense. I didn't even think about a cysts. Glad you found some information on it. Hopefully it'll go away soon...

Good luck with everything!

No it isn't the gestational sac or yolk sac. I actually did some more research & was able to talk to some health professionals & am pretty sure it is a fibroid cyst, which is common in some women during their first trimester & caused by the increase in hormones. I was told not to worry about it at all & should slowly go away by itself as my hormones level out more. Of course my doctor is going to keep an eye on it just incase. Thanks for the posts!

I had the same thing on my ultrasound last Friday.  I am almost 7 weeks also.  There was a large shadow actually covering my uterus which made it to where we couldn't see anything.  My doctor was not at all worried.  Had another ultrasound done 4 days later and the shadow was gone.  Who knows what it was!!  So don't worry, there is nothing wrong with you or baby!!

Are you referring to the gestational sac? Maybe your baby was just on the very side of the sac and the sac looked like a big shadow next to it, when in fact the baby is actually inside it. That's the only thing I can think of that would be that much bigger than the baby. There's also a yolk sac in there, but that would be smaller than the baby at 7 weeks.
