Sort of off subject, but I've noticed that anything other than sugar sweetened stuff has tasted REALLY BAD since becoming pregnant. A good thing, I think, since I try to avoid artificial sweeteners.
Has anyone else had this happen?
I was going to recommend cereal and low fat fudge pops as well. And homemade hot chocolate!!! Use powdered milk, a little sugar and some dutch cocoa power w/ hot skim milk or hot water! An easy way to get chocolate and good calcium! and plus, if it's hot, you drink it slower (and to me that's most satisfying, having treats slowly) :)
Just be cautious like Joy had mentioned about the artificially sweetened treats. My doctor told me that healthy people shouldn't even have that stuff never mind a pregnant woman and a baby...and I was an Equal-a-holic...so I had to kick my habit when I got pregnant last October and then after the mc I figured since I was ttc I should just stay away from it. Things that say 'sugar-free' have artificial sweeteners. I do believe the 100 calorie packs have artificial sweetener...sugar free instant puddings do have artificial sweetener...Just please don't have the sugar free stuff. It is much better to have sugar. Put DH on alert so he can be sure not to buy that stuff...we want you and baby to be healthy!
I love cereal when I want something sweet. Frosted shredded wheat, apple jacks, corn pops, raisin bran. It really hits the spot. Also the jello fat.free/sugar free instant puddings. They even have the single serving instant now that I can take to work. Also the 100 calorie packs of oreos, graham crackers etc. It works!
Thank you ladies!! I will send DH to the store for the super loaded chocolcate low fat. Thanks for the rec. of Breyers, because I tried one low fat ice cream and it was funky, so I assumed that they all were. I appreciate the help!!
yea i found for one OP's post, a list of good and bad sweeteners and i believe splenda was one of the worst....but apparently there will a few that were not considered harmful during pregnancy!
OP if you want that list, i can paste it if you want, so you can see what is ok and what's not
Pudding, jello, ice creams, fudge pops (calcium and low fat).
Stay away from Splenda and other sweetners. My grandmother-in-law is a nutritionist and stays up-to-date with the latest in research with foods. Apparently Splenda is REALLY bad for children and yet all of their commercials feature children in them.
So... some sugar is better than the alternative stuff.
i buy sugarfree/fat free ice cream.....with breyers you really can't tell the diff, except the chocolate has the "taste" of powdered nesquick after you're done....which i wash away with chocolate milk ;)
um, you can buy the deserts in the brownie isle, the ones like cheesecake(but not cheesecake lol), that say sugar free, low fat, fat free.....and they still taste the same, it's just in how the proprtion the ingredients....or that they alter certain ingredients with low fat/sugar free ones.....i've used them before and they were really good.....
oh and the chocolate ice cream-BEST way to keep other people out of your stuff....4 years ago when i lived with my mom, the kids would eat my I/C...till out of curiousity of taste, i bought the sugar free, and it didnt taste so bad *I* wouldnt eat it(it was still good), but the kids saw sugar free, and never touched it ;)
btw-when i do the sugar free, i always buy the chocolate super brownie chunk(may not be the exact name), and i believe it is also fat free or low fat....now i want some lol....
go to the jell-o website and they have plenty of low fat deserts the whole family will love!
