Miscarry?

Ok well, my girlfriend was kind enough to inform me (I'm talking like 10 minutes ago) that she miscarried. This being shocking news to me seeing as she never told me she was pregnant in the first place.
Anyways, I'm hoping she's wrong and she didn't miscarry.

My question is, how do you know if you've miscarried?
She says she's two weeks early for her period (won't tell me how heavy) and that she's been in pain for a few days. She also says she took another pregnancy test and it was negative but those can be wrong right?
I'm just kind of bummed out about this.

Ok well last night she started complaining that she was in a lot of pain and it got to the point where she couldn't sit up. So I rushed from work to get her and drove her to the hospital, they did a blood test and an x-ray and determined that she was in the process of having a miscarriage and was having contractions.
She got out of the hospital at about 1am this morning and has been in bed ever since.
I'm kind of relieved but kind of disappointed, I was kind of excited with the thought of fathering a child but at the same time I'm only 20 and would have a bit of an issue with money the first couple of years.

Anyways, thanks for all your replies it was truly helpful.

If she missed a period and got a yes on a pregnancy test, then has inordinate bleeding, it's worth checking out for sure.  It's possible to get a false negative on a test if the urine was too dilute.  A blood test is pretty much absolute.  If she still has an hCG level, she should definitely get the second blood test 48 hours later.

Good luck to you both.

I'll take her to the doctor to get the blood tests, I don't think she would lie about something like this.
She missed her last period, took a test and it came out positive. Now it's two weeks later and this is happening, I suppose I could have worded it better.

If she is not sure, she should go get checked.  Her hCG level would be dropping or down to 0 if she miscarried, and it would still be doubling if she is pregnant.

If she never told you she was pregnant in the first place, maybe she wasn't.  Sometimes girlfriends pull this kind of thing to fill a gap in the relationship, get attention, make a dramatic pronouncement for some effect, etc.

If she took a pregnancy test and it was negative, that means she either is not pregnant or she did not take the pregnancy test according to the instructions (i.e., with first-morning urine.)

She says she's two weeks early for what period?  If she is telling you that she had a normal period last month, then two weeks later (now) she is bleeding a lot and assumes she has gotten pregnant and has miscarried, that timing is just dumb.  How long has she been missing  her periods is the question you should have asked her.  How far along did she think she was?

Only thing you can really do, if she is telling you that you would have been the father, is insist on going with her to the ob-gyn for two hCG blood draws, 48 hours apart, to determine exactly what is going on.  If her hCG level is under 5, she is not pregnant.  If it is some number higher than 5 and doubling in 48 hours, she is pregnant.  If it is some number higher than 5 but going down, it indicates a miscarriage for sure.

Um if she's 2 weeks early for her period then she should only be ovulating right about now unless she got pregnant the cycle before???
