Radiation during pregnancy

What is the deal with radiation and pregnancy and what are the effects?  The other day I was warming up my food in the microwave and I was told not to stand too close to the microwave because of radiation.  Then I got my nails done and this time instead of drying my nails with the fan, the guy put my hands under a black light kinda thing for 5 minutes...and then I thought to myself is this radiation too??  And when I had my cell phone clipped to my pants I was also told not to do that because it's radiation as well...will contact with radiation affect the baby right away, or is it if you constantly have contact with radiaiton. Anybody??

Oh okay, thanks. Yea it had me wondering because microwave is something I use everyday, I don't necessarily stand in front, but I dunno at least i know its not harmful.  My baby's dad is getting his tattoo removed and now I can't be in the room with him because of the radiation, and they do make sure to ask if you are pregnant or thinjk you are pregnant.

Radiation in large amonts can be harmful to your fetus....A microwave, not going to hurt you.... The black light at the nail place, not going to hurt you....What they mean is large amounts.... Like x-ray machines and such.. They put out a lot of radiation......

lol one of the many pluses of being pregnant, huh.  I know I'm always getting offered food all the time, and no one tells me anything because I'm pregnant lol.

This is just a guess, but I would say any kind of contact.......When I take my kids for exrays, they always ask if I'm pregnant or think I might be. So I assume at any point it can be a risk. Now I can tell them yes I am and sit in a nice comfortable chair while I wait instead of that cold room......lol
