i c ur on u no meant to b at work
This just happened to me, actually at the intgerview my boss asked if i was planning on getting pregnant soon(in the same senteance she said it doesn't matter, it wouldn't change her decision), i told her if it happened it happened (of course i was trying) and sure enough the week i start my job i found out i was preggo. I told her when i was 6 weeks and she was very happy for me, she just wants me to try to give her lots of notice before i leave (we can take 1 year maternity leave and 15 weeks sick leave before we go on mat leave)
Thanks, the problems with most employers who fire ppl for being pregnant is they say it's for stupid reasons (being late1time or stuff like that)
And if the company is one where your lifting heavy stuff but meet the FMLA requirements of 50ppl or more, then the law says they HAVE to put you in another position that you can do, be it paperwork or light lifting..
There is no reason for an employer to fire someone due to pregnancy, and if you go on leave, then they HAVE to give you your job back or one with equal pay and duties. Thats the law also.
You can always talk to your legal services (at the local courthouse) about all this. Some companies are idiots and may fire you even tho it's illegal. I'd suggest that when you decide to make mention of being pregnant you make sure your work is up to par and they have no reason to fire you. then keep notes on anything that happens.
For example, if you are harrassed about stupid things, write them down each time. The day and time it happened and who was involved. And if they fire you you at least have some standing to contest it in court where you can say "I had no problems til I told them I was pregnant and then this and that happened"
martika lined it ALL out......
take the job....i know in the US it is 100% illegal to be let go from a job just b/c you are pregnant....i know *some* companies are able to get around it, due to the work(IE, wharehouses, stockers, etc), but that's b/c you have to be able to life up to 50#'s everytime you touch something, and not alot of companies have other dept's to send you to, so they offer you unemployment till y ou can come back to full duty.....
This is what my employer told me: YOu dont LEGALLY have to say anything to them at any time if your pregnant. She said that if I wanted to keep it secret til I go on maternity leave I could and there would be no ramifications!
I finally told everyone I was pregnant as I finished my training. I live here in California and work for Hilton Reservations which they are very strict on not missing work and things like that. So I did have to tell people so that I could get my extra breaks excused.
If I were you I'd wait until you are 12-13w. however if you are pregnant and then begin to have bad morning sickness where you need extra breaks to go throw up, only then should you tell your employer. You can get some FMLA paperwork to get filled out by your doctor. FMLA is the Family Medical Leave Act and is federal law. You can't get fired for being pregnant or for any complications of pregnancy, even if you have to be put on bedrest early... HOWEVER: in order for a company to qualify for those rules, there have to be more than 50employees there.
Once you get hired, I'd suggest speaking to your HR department.
You technically don't know if your pregnant or not, so there is no reason to not to go. Like others said, even if you were, some women wait until they are out of their 1st trimester in case of m/c. I wouldn't even worry about it and go to the interview and even take the job if offered.
I agree w/ the above posters!!
GOOD LUCK!!
Absolutely go to your interview. You don't even know if you're pg, so don't stop a job opportunity for something that may not even be happening. Do not talk about pg during the interview.
I'm fairly certain pg cannot be considered a pre-existing condition anymore as far as insurance coverage goes, so you're good there. The only reason to be concerned about not working there for a full year before delivery is for the FMLA and 12 weeks maternity leave. You will get at least 6 weeks off (because of doctor's orders) and if it's a decent company, they'll probably allow 8 weeks off.
Good luck!
You can't be fired for being pregnant (at least legally). I would definitely go for the second interview and don't say anything yet, especially since you don't even know if you are pregnant. If you are offered the job, then you can see where things stand, but you do not need to let them know anything right now. In fact, even if you are pregnant, you might want to wait until the second trimester to mention it anyway, just to make sure all is well with the baby.
That is my .02. Good luck.
