My ob tells me to eat for the one hr. The only time I fasted was pregnancy #2 when I failed the 1hr and they made me take the 3hr(i passed). I wouldnt play around and just take the test again
I'm diabetic & on insulin. Believe me it's nothing to play with. Your baby can be born with defects, stillborn, over weight etc... I don't think you want that fir your baby. Maybe try making an early morning appt so you don't get to hungry before taking the test.
Ok I have diabetes and just because you don't way sugary food means nothing. U.don't even.count sugar with the diet y count carbs. And believe me u don't want to take your blood 4 times a day.also u said u eat lots of fruit well even eating a whole banana can bring ur sugar up. As far as baby the baby can be big but also after the baby is born the baby can have sugar problems bc the baby is trying to fight all the sugar u can't fight. Please just take the test. What the drink cold? I found it's better cold.
Sorry forgot I think you should try taking it again and ask if you can go to a different draw station they usually send you somewhere else good luck
The office can refuse rendering services to you to protect them self just in case you try to sue or something happens to your baby sometimes if your sugar level is to high for the food you eat they make you retest at my work a lady once had her blood glucose level @ 500 she said she had some soda and a burger so she said it was probably due to the sugar in the soda so she tested again fasting and it was 300
Sorry I meant I ate mainly healthy steamed or boiled protein and veg.
Ps a dietician needs to tell you what diet you need and monitor you.. we can't do that based on our experience.. xx
Ashelen is spot on it could cause so many complications to your baby which is why they test you for it
My diet was low carb only wholegrain no sugars and veg and towards the end that wasn't enough and I was put on metformin to keep blood sugars low so baby wouldny gain too much weight they induced me of fear od baby being big .. she was only 6lb6 luckily. You so need the test and if you test positive you will be seen more.. scanned more to.check size of baby and see a diabetic team and doetixian. So it is important . There is no one with it in my family and it usually goes away after having baby it did with me. Yheres nothing you can do to perevent it you will either get it or you won't. Good luck xx
OK I understand what you mean better now. but honestly suffering through a few hours of the sugary drink is going to be much easier than pricking your finger 4x a day for the rest of your pregnancy...
Since you failed your first test, I highly recommend you get the second test done again. Untreated GD can cause all sorts of risks and complications for mother and baby, including coma, seizure, and death. Not trying to scare you, but it's nothing to fool around with.
I did tell them and the option they gave me was to take my blood as if I was diabetic or to do the test. They don't offer jelly beans at the clinic I go to and they changed the flavor but only because the stronger sugar drink for the 3hr test only came in a fruit punch flavor which I thought was worse than the first one. I will do research on GD now and am not trying to go out of my way to hurt my baby or myself or be irresponsible. I just can't handle the sugary drink I normally never eat or drink sugary things so fasting for 12 hours and then drinking straight sugar didn't settle well with me. I want whats best for me and my baby and if I have to I will go on the special diet and take my blood four times a day.
I asked about the jelly beans because a nurse told me about it but they don't offer that anymore :( Whats weird is that my family doesn't have a history of diabetes I thought it was more of a genetic thing. And that if you eat healthy you wouldn't get it. What is the special diet like do you know? I'll research it all myself but I just figured I'd ask. Thanks for replying.
I think you need to do some serious research into GD for sure before making desitions like this... learn the effects on baby, on yourself and what it takes to keep it under control... AND talk to your Dr! tell him/her that your afraid youll just keep getting sick, see if there are other opitons... like someone else said there are other flavors and from being on here there are actually jelly beans you can eat instead of the drink.... maybe they would be willing to order you in somehting else if they dont normally carry other flavors...
yes most woman pass the test and all is good but they test you because there is a chance you can have it and a lg baby is just one of the risks... look into it... for my 1 hour test with my last pregnancy i ate before(here your allowed) and failed and so i didnt eat before for this pregnancy and failed the test again.... i passed the second tests each time...but because you did fail... even just a tiny bit you still need to know for sure....if you are choosing to live like you have it then its even more important you do your research
And here regarless of the strength of glucose they only have orange flavor... and honestly i thought the second stronger drink tasted better than the first, it was easier to get down for me...
The Dr can refuse to see you. And if they don't monitor your sugar that could result in your being big and end up having a csection. And/ or your baby can develop diabetes. I think. If you which drs the new Dr is gonna ask you too do it since the other drs results are inaccurate. Ask if there's a diffrent method, I read on here not long ago that a womans Dr gave her jelly beans instead of the drink. I know it tastes awful I can't stand anything too sweet, with my son I threw up the first time, then rescheduled it failed it and had to do the 3hour one. This time I forced that stuff down and passed it the first time. It's not a matter of them being understanding about what you ate before hand , but they need the results to be more accurate to know if they need to put you on a special diet for your and your babys well being.
That's pretty much what I've been doing except I only rescheduled the redo of the redo once and then didn't bother to reschedule it again since I'm not going to go to it. My only concern now is what happens to my body or our baby if the doctors don't know if I'm diabetic or not? I mean what really changes in the way I'd live or how they'd care for me?
I know that drink is nasty! Made me feel sick, but luckily i kept it down. My friend said she kelt missing her appointment (on purpose) and just kept rescheduling cause she didn't want to take it. And she never did end up taking it. You could try that, just keep missing the appointment lol. But honestly i don't know if the doctors can refuse to see you or not. Im sure it was just the food. But if you can tough it out one more time, maybe its just best to get it over with? Good luck!
They told me that I could pretty act like I had it and do my blood test four times a day but I'm not sure if they were serious or if they were just trying to scare me into doing the test and getting it over with like you said. I REALLY hope that I don't have it :P What happens to the baby if you do have it besides the baby getting big? What kind of special diet do they put you on? Is it completely different than what eating healthy is already like or what?
I'm afraid you can be the healthiest eater and skinny and still get it. Being overweight just increases your chances.. isn't a symptom as such. It's to do with your body and how it handles insulin. I had it and only gained 7lb during my pregnancy. I'm afraid the test is the only way. If you have it and don't get diagnosed or treated tour baby could become Farr too big or other problems.Just get it over and done with for your baby. The three hour glucose tolerance test was the only way of finding out. Trust me. Xx
How long do you think I'd have to test for them to rule it out? Because I would seriously rather ***** my finger four times a day than try and drink that drink again and deal with the grumpy staff who do the test.
Regarding the flavors they did switch them for me but not really for me it was actually because the higher dose of the sugar drink which they give you in the second test is in a different flavor. The first test was supposed to be like orange soda and the second test was in fruit punch. I thought the first was bad but I was wrong the fruit punch was like sugar on crack. It gave me an immediate headache and made me nauseous which is why I ended up throwing up. I hardly ever eat sugary foods and almost always eat organic food or food that is free from preservatives and extra sugar or add ins. I eat lots of fruit and when I eat meat its usually white meat chicken or fish. Could I really have diabetes eating that healthy? My mom never had it and shes SUPER overweight with all of her pregnancies.
Ps testing for a week isn't accurate. Id have some high weeks some normal depending on what I ate..and stage of pregnancy xx
If you don't comply with the tests they want you to take your dr has the right to refuse service to you. But you also don't have to take the test either. Its kind of a catch 22 basically. They don't have the other flavors? My drs office had three flavors for those who couldn't tolerate one or the other. I got sick on the orange so I would drink the lemon lime. Not sure what the other flavor was. U could ask them about other flavors to accommodate you. Good luck.
