my lil guys heartbeat was always over 140. i just had him 4 weeks ago, so for my case it is an old wives tale.
Its an old wives tale - heart rate will vary anywhere from 120-180 bpm depending on babies activity level at the time the HB is measured. In otherwords, even though HB was 160 bpm at you last appointment, if the measurement was taken 5 min later it may have only been 130 bpm.
Congratulations on your pregnancy.
I couldn't vote because I have two answers. My first daughter's heartrate was always in the 160-170 range. My youngest daughter was always in the 140-150 range.
So every little one is different.
I voted for Girl Over 140 because this time we are having a girl and at our first u/s it was 170, 12 week dr visit it was 156, 20 week u/s it was 155, and last dr appointment it was 153.
With my son though, his hb was always around 145.
At our 10 week ultrasound the heartbeat was 167 and was in the 150s until week 16 when it was 146 and it's been 146 since then and we are definitely having a boy!
My baby's hb has always stayed over 140 (except the first u/s that it was 132 at 7 weeks) and its a boy. 12 week u/s I think it was 150 or something like that and at 18 weeks it was 148.
My MIL says that she used to be a delivery nurse (back in the day) and when women were in labor that if the hr was over 140 it was always a boy. I think the wives tale is suppossed to be the other way around
