OT~Woman driving on wrong way of highway

I don't know if you guys heard this on the news.... But here in NY there was a lady with 5 kids in the car (3 of her nieces and 2 of her own) and out of nowhere she started driving the wrong way in the highway, causing her minivan to crash with another SUV and killing everyone(8 total) including herself.  At first evryone was wondering how did this lady manage to that? She must have had a stroke or something? the kids were 4,5,5,7,9.. Her son (5 years old) was the only survivor.  3 people in the SUV were also killed, a father(81) and his son(47) and a family friend(74).  

The police were waitng for the autopsy and some other test. It was ruled out that she didn't have a heart attack or anything of the sort.  In fact she was pretty healthy...... it turns out that she was drunk and had marijuana in her system!!!!!!!!!!!!! How can a person knowing she had something to drink and smoked get in a car with all these children and jeopardize their lifes??? I feel so sad for the other family and for those kids... they never got a chance...

OMG!  I thought she was sick like had a seizure or something!  I cannot believe this...how scary...any of us with OUR babies could have been that other car!

i heard about this last week...i think...2 of them actually on the same highway or something....i didnt know the outcome though but that is nuts..i dont know why people would do that..

my uncle's ex wife did just that and he is fighting for custody of his kids...8 and 5(almost 6)...they as well as her other baby(1) were in the van and she had been drinking...They were about half an hour from the city and she got into a fight, her mom tried to stop her but wasn't able(Sorry but i would have called the police) and she got maybe about 10 minutes down the road, pulled over and passed out. The 8 year old put the car in park because the mother had not done so and she took her cell and called her and her little sister's dad. he was livid..i cannot believe people STILL do this...drink and drive...on father's day 3 15 yr olds were killed by a drunk driver as they were struck...its crazy...

Oh my gosh, that is horrible!!! And why no one is allowed to drive my kids anywhere if I know they have a history of drug/alcohol abuse. I don't like it when anyone takes my kids anywhere anyway, even if they are "clean".

This is just so awful and such an avoidable accident.  Not only did she jeopardize her life and those in the vehicle with her but she jeopardized everyone else on the road.  Now the poor innocent people in the SUV (not to mention all of the children) have lost their lives to a stupid and poor decisions made by a selfish lady. That is just wrong

I live in MA so this was on our news...did they ever figure out what happened?  Her son did survive and they said they were going to be looking to him for some answers...SOOOOO tragic!

that is absolutely HORRIBLE! those poor children. i could never in a million years even imagine doing something so stupid to jeapordize the lives of my children.

Oh my god. that's horrible.  You know, if they wind up legalizing marajuana here in Cali (which I'm all for) I still wouldn't smoke around my kids, OR even be around them when I have smoked, just like I don't drink around TJ (well a wine cooler) but not get drunk or anything... I'm not much of a drinker anywayse.

I read about this. ( I live in NY) I also heard that she had called her husband on the cell phone and told him that she didnt feel right and that she felt ill. He apparently told her to pull over but she claimed that there was no where to pull over.....

It is really sad.

It is just terrible. I had seen it on the news and was so saddened for all of those that lost their lives.

How sad!! And even more sad that a mother, who had all those kids whom she was responsible for would even think about drinking or smoking. That is just very very sad.
