my period is 13 days late i did a pregnancy test today and its negative.what is the cause of my period absence

i'll be honest about home preg kits, i bought a clear blue tester it said negative and i was 4 months gone, im mot trying to scare you, mine are  like clockwork, you are better doing a test at docs,  it could be stress that causes them to be late or absent, r u on any birth control?
