Possible Ectopic Pregnancy or Miscarriage

I should have been about 4 weeks pregnant according to my last period (Novembe 15th).  However, I went for a transvaginal ultrasound today to pinpoint how far along I was, and no embryo or any pregnany symptoms were detected in my uterus.  I have tested positive for pregnany on 4 different tests done on 4 different days (the last one done last night) and each one showed up sooner and brighter (the line determining a positive pregnancy) than the previous one.  I have had 3 successful pregnancies, and no previous miscarriages or eptopic pregnancies.  I am 26 years of age, don't smoke, and live a healthy lifestyle.  I had very slight bleeding (more of a pinkish-brown thick mucousy discharge than actual blood, but there was slight bloody show as well) last Friday for about 3 hours and then it stopped; accompanied by slight cramping.  No "symptoms" have been severe.  It feels more like I'm pregnant, bloated, with gas cramps than anything.  I've had normal early pregnancy signs as well (tender breasts, tender abdominal area, hightened sense of smell, and taste aversions/cravings).  This is very strange.  I had a blood test for hCG levels today but won't know the results till tomorrow.  Then I have to repeat the test on Friday, won't have results until Monday (to determine if they are going up or down...).  I have two questions:  1, is there a chance that I am just too early for the doctor to find any signs of a uterine pregnancy (he did not say there was a chance for this, and told me there were only two reasons I am getting a "false" positive:  miscarriage or eptopic pregnancy), but perhaps I am less than 4 weeks along--can a transvaginal ultrasound even detect anything that early?  I should have had a period by this last Saturday, but no period, and no more bleeding or cramping.  Question 2:  has anyone experienced something similar to this, and what were your symptoms; how were you treated?  Obviously, for health reasons, I am hoping it was a miscarriage, not an eptopic pregnancy.  But the dr said if it was a miscarriage, it happened so early that there are no longer any uterine signs...  so shouldn't I have had my period by now, or some show of blood for more than 3 hours???  I guess I will know on Monday, but if I am having a tubal pregnancy, how far along to I have to be for a risk of rupture...  we plan to travel for the holidays, and I don't want to be hours from home or a hospital and get sick.  This sucks!  Oh, one more thing.  I went to Mexico in October and contracted giardia and salmonella.  The anti-biotics and anti-microbials I was on said they could be very dangerous for pregnancy.  That was from November 2nd until November 12th that I was on these.  Perhaps they could have affected the embryo, even though it wasn't technically fertelized until days later.

SO IT FIRST STARTED WHEN MY DR PUT ME ON BIRTH CONTROL PILLS, WITCH ID NEVER BEEN ON BEFORE SO I DIDNT NO WHAT TO EXPECT. I ALSO HAVE 4 KIDS ALREADY SO  I NO WHAT PREGNANT FEELS LIKE. SO I STARTED FEELIN SICK AFTER  3 WEEKS OF BEING ON THE PILLS, SO I CALLED THE ADVICE NURSE AT MY DR.S AND ASKED IF THE PILLS WHERE SUPPOSED TO MAKE ME FEEL LIKE I WAS PREGNANT AND SHE SAID THATS NORMAL, AND PRIOR TO THAT I TOOK 2 HOME PREGNANCY TEST THAT CAME BACK NEGATIVE. SO I JUST LEFT AS THAT. THEN JUST LAST WEEK I WENT IN CUZ I WAS HAVING NECK AND SHOULDER PAIN, WITCH I THOUGHT HAD TO DO FROM A HEAD INJURY FROM WHEN I WAS 19 (27 NOW) SO THE DR ORDERED AN X-RAY WITCH CAME BACK NORMAL, SO THE NEXT WEEK I WOKE UP W BAD CRAMPS AND MY PAJAMAS FULL OF BLOOD SO I THOUGHT IT WAS MY PERIOD SO I GOT IN THE SHOWER TO GET READY FOR WORK, AFTER THE SHOWER  LAID DOWN CUZ IT WAS HURTING, BUT WHEN I GOT UP THIS BIG THING CAME OUT OF ME. NOW IVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE . IT WAS MORE THAN JUST TISSUE. SO I GO TO THE DR. THEY TAKE A URINE P TEST WITCH HAD INFORMED THE DR THAT W ALL MY OTHER PREGNANCYS I DIDNT FIND OUT UNTIL I WAS 10 WEEKS CUZ THE TEST DID DETECH IT. SO HE DID A PELVIC EXAM AND SAID MY UTERUS WAS IN LARGED SO HE SENT ME TO GET A PELVIC ULTRASOUND. WITCH CAME BACK NEG. SO THE DR IS TELLING ME THAT EVERTHING CAME NORMAL AND IT WASNT A MISCARRIAGE. SO MY QUESTION IS HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ANYONE BEFORE, AND IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE  AN ECTOPIC PREGNANCY AND NOT BE ABLE TO DETECT IT.

Hey girl you sound like your having a bad day,
i can tell ya i had my scan at 4 weeks 3days saw the sac and yolk, it was tiny though but you could see it...however each is different it can depend on your body frame.as for an eptopic generally when they scanned you if they couldnt see you they would have looked in your tubes.to check i suffered eptopic last year nov,at 3 to 4 weeks,it resolved itself i just mc it naturally, alo of brown string stuff, and i was having alot of shoulder pain, this made me suspect that somthing wasnt right.

It doesn't matter if you're healthy and have an amazing lifestyle of health. Women miscarry for reasons beyond their control.

As for the ultrasound, you need a new doctor. Any doctor who says you're not pregnant because they don't see anything on ultrasound at 4 weeks does not know what they are doing. You cannot usually see anything until 6 weeks. Check out this chart:

http://www.ohiorepromed.com/hcg_levels.htm

It states yoke sac appears on or around 5 weeks. Heartbeat around 6 weeks. And embryo closer to the end of 6 week, beginning of 7 weeks.

Phew! That makes me angry!!! See someone else!

4 weeks is usually too early to see anything on an u/s. Also, I don't think the antibiotics you took in early November would have an impact, since you've had a period since then and probably didn't ovulate until Dec. 1 or so.
