HI!
I just wanted to know how are you, How was everything at your DR's appointment?
Keep me posted!
Sorry I have been out lately busy at work and then busy with baby. I never got to the point where I started spotting with my second pregnancy. I got on progesterone at 5 weeks, which was prochieve 8% once a day (which is 90 mg of progesterone).
I have read that if progesterone is low, you can start spotting at around 6 weeks. Many women do continue to spot throughout pregnancy just as Peekawho described above for unknown reasons. Some cases will stop spotting but then may spot if you get off. In your case your levels are obviously low and that you need supplements. I would continue to be monitored by your Dr and maybe ask for another ultrasound in two weeks to see if you can see a heart beat.
At 12 weeks I had a NT testing done for the baby which is a high tech u/s that measures the back of the neck and nose bridge for down syndrome or other defects. There she was also able to look at the sac and lining which she said was nice and thick. Dont know if you have insurance that will cover that, but she did a whole anatomy scan of the baby (just like a 20wk appointment)...she was even able to see he was a boy just at 12 wks!!!
So the only advice I have is to stay on it for 12 weeks, get off for 1 week and have your levels tested again to ensure that they are up. As you said your Dr liked to see it above 25, but mine was still only at 21 at 13 weeks. There are many women who have also had low levels, never got on supplements and had sucessful pregnancy, so I guess there is never a for sure answer, however in my opinion I would rather be proactive about my treatment if it is something easily fixable.
Let me know how everything goes!
Does the spotting goes away after a while or those stays that way during the whole pregnancy?
I am asking you because you already went through this, and have your beautiful baby.
Hope to hear from you soon!
btw... check out the new "pregnancy: June 09 Babies" forum. Everyone there is due in June....
I don't actually have abdominal pain. I was only kidding about a way to get an ultrasound. My last hcg was only 739 on Thursday, this is just too early to see anything on ultrasound. My doc wants to wait until it's more like 1500.
I think I concieved on September 30th ... when I did a calculator, that makes my due date 6/23. Of course all the signs say that this pregnancy will end in miscarriage, my last hcg only rose 63% in 72 hours. It rizes a little less each time they check it ... but I will carry on through the weekend and see what the blood test shows on Monday.
If you just go to the emergency room and tell them that you are pregnant and you are having some abdominal pain, they are suppost to do an ultrasound just to make sure the baby is ok.
I will think that your doctor would've send you to get one by now.
It is so exiting we are about the same time pregnant!
So your due date is June 26th or around there? Mine is June 25th!
It sounds like yours is going to be just fine. I didn't realize you'd had an ultrasound. I was actually thinking I should just fake some left sided pain and make him look for an eptopic. LOL. Really though, I know you can't see anything at this point anyway.
Looks like we'll both be talking to the doc on Monday. Fingers crossed for ya!
btw ... I should be 6 weeks 4 days today!
I am going back on dec 2, but my doctor also works at a hospital, so he told me that if things get worst to go to the emergency room and have them got him, and he will be there.
I acctually got an ultrasound like a week and a half ago to determine how far my pregnancy is. Because after my D&C, my periods were very irregular, they couln't know the exact time, I am 6 weeks and 3 days today. When they did the ultrasound there was no heartbeat yet, but they told me it was because the baby was too small.
My hcg levels are ok, that is what my doctor said, they are doubling evry 48 hours.
Don't give up, I am very ansious too.
Hopefully everything will be fine for both of us!
Yeah, my spotting came back not long after I posted that and has been red blood (not much, but there none the less) ever since. It looks like the spotting has nothing to do with the prometrium. My hcg numbers are also not doubling anymore. The last one rose 63% in 72 hours. It is still rizing though, so we are giving it one more test to attempt to rize properly. I was at 739 on Thursday, if I could just get to the point of having an ultrasound I'd feel better about stopping the prometrium and letting the pregnancy go.
Hope all is going well for you. When do you go back to the doc?
Prometrium will only "help' if your progesterone is low due to a specific problem where the corpus luteum cyst does not produce enough to maintain the very early pregnancy.
It is not a miracle cure for spotting. It will not prevent a miscarriage that might occur for much more common reasons, like a chromasome abnormality or blighted ovum, for example.
Many doctor prescribe progesterone because it probably won't hurt anything, and it might help. But it will not prevent a miscarriage that could occur for most reasons.
Spotting during early pregnancy is very common. Most times it goes away on its own and is not a problem, except for the worry it causes. Sometimes it could herald an impending miscarriage.
I hope your HCG levels continue to rise and you have a healthy and happy pregnancy.
How lonf after you started on prometrium did you stopped spotting? Or does is stay spotting that way through out the whole pregnancy?
I am just asking because maybe I need a hire dose of prometrium, plus Pips it is also concerned with her pregnancy too.
I hope you can help us.
The next day after taking prometrium for the first time I stopped spotting, but the day after that I started again, and now os a little darker than what it was before.
I think we should ask babyscience about how long it takes for the spotting to stop. Thanks to prometrium she has a beautiful 10 month old miracle baby!
I am sorry I had to posted so may times, but it showed like it did not posted before.

I too am on prometrium, and we are watching my hcg closely because the numbers are low, although they are doubling every 72 hours (minimal requirement). I started spotting Sunday night and it went from brown to some pink on Monday morning. My hcg is still climbing so he upped my dose of prometrium (up to 3 x at 200 mg now). The spotting has lessened quite a bit and is mostly brown now, but it's still there. It's been about 44 hours since I took the first extra dose of prometrium.
How many hours after beginning prometrium did your spotting stop?
The doc really doesn't think it's due to miscarriage because the bleeding should start once my hcg stops rizing and not before. I'm trying to stay positive and just wait for the next round of numbers...
That is exactly what my Dr said. He said that the HCG levels were perfect because they double in 48 hours, but that the progesterone is very low, he want me to be at least on 25. I just started on prometrium yesterday, 100 mg twice a day. He told me to rest, not to overwork myself, and everything is going to be fine, I really hope so, but you know what... I am not spotting today! I don't know if is because of the prometrium, but if it is, it does worked fast.
You can see there is a wide range of normal HCG. However with your progesterone being at a 10.2, that could be why you are spotting, my Dr liked it to be above 20. I would think you will have to get on supplements.
