Depending on the doctor it can hurt or be uncomfortable. But they put a finger condom or glove on, lub up and have you lay a certain position to go finger deep to hit your cervix wall to see if your dilated and/or thinned.

They stick their fingers deep into your vag, to feel if your cervix is opening. It's rather unpleasant n hurts a bit
