I just had this happen to me two weeks ago! I'm 8 weeks along now. My doctor prescribed a vaginal progesterone, and I was hesitant especially after everything that had already been in my body from the surgery (it was an emergency situation and they started doing laprascopy and then realized they had to do open surgery because the cyst was too big). However, he had really done his research and talked to high risk pregnancy centers and he literally saved my life so I trusted him after verbalizing my fears. Since then I've heard only great things about progesterone and how helpful it's been to women in saving their pregnancies. The risks in this situation are so tiny that it's worth it, but what I have heard is that the deliver method really makes a difference. From what I've learned the vaginal cream is the best way to go.
Good luck with everything! This is pregnancy number 5 for us and I've been on the progesterone for 2 weeks and feel just like i have in my other pregnancies (which is sick, so that's no fun, but it's always a comfort to me because I know baby is fine!)
I took progesterone the first 12 weeks as well due to bleeding issues and my progesterone dropped. I now have a healthy 4 mpnth old. Let us know how everything goes! H&H9M!
I took progesterone for first 12 weeks as well and it is a supportive, helpful hormonal supplement! Good luck to you and hats off to you for braving the surgery and keeping your cool. Wish you a happy and healthy pregnancy and a cute bundle of joy!
Thanks a lot for support & confirming how good this porgesterone is .... this is really encouraging....
Thanks JoyRenee & mamaof4410
I shall keep you posted on the developments... I hope I have a normal & full term preg...
*Placenta forms around week 10-12.
Progesterone is being given to you for a very, very good reason. If the cyst that got twisted was the one giving off progesterone naturally in your body and you had it removed it could cause you to miscarry. Progesterone is necessary in the first trimester to tell your brain to not menstruate because you are pregnant. You only take supplements during the first trimester because when the placenta forms it takes over the production of progesterone so the supplements are then no longer necessary.
I took progesterone my previous pregnancy and this pregnancy. Many women take it with a history of miscarriage. Due to your unique circumstance of having an ovary removed this was a good call by the doctor.
I have never heard of this but I know the progestrone helps alot in retaining a pregnancy especially in the early weeks. I'm sure your doctor wouldnt give it to you if it wasnt safe. And your body makes this hormone naturally. They also give this to women in the early weeks to keep them from miscarrying when they keep having miscarriages. Best of luck to you.
